  1. Today I get to the lake and I see a bird(Commorant) come up with a trout as I am tying on my old 9" punker. I make one cast and the bird comes up with another trout. The trout are planted on the other end of the lake. I made a few cast and move about 50 yards down the shoreline on foot. When I get to the spot I got a good look at the trout. Easily no more than 10" in length. I then changed the lure to a red gilled hudd rof 12 in rainbow trout that I modified with pipe cleaners, red paint and gorilla glue. I added some pro cure oil to the line tie area and the tail end of the lure. My setup used was a shimano cardiff 400A spooled with 25lb. triple fish camo escent and my crucial rod rated for 8"-16" swimbaits. I think they now go by Trik-Fish Line. I spoke with a sales rep. at trik fish shortly. She told me they are no longer making camo escent. Just buy the regular camo armour tough or clear armour tough from this point on. Glad that I stock up. I have enough to last another year or so. Todays air temp. was in the low 60's. Water temp., no idea. I managed to land more than one fish today with several bites. Maybe the bass are looking to spawn but not doing so exactly. They were obviously feeding on trout so they should have plenty of eggs to lay. Here are my results after matching the hatch. Wow. More than one. The weight on the first: 6lb. 5oz on the Digital. Weight on the second 5lb.1oz. I used the red gill modification. Not sure if it helps but it gives me more confidence. The trout appears to be tired and wounded.

  2. 8" Huddleston Deluxe Swimbait in Rainbow Trout

Red Gill Modofication: I inserted trimmed white pipe cleaners into the gill openings using a clean razor blade. I use gorilla glue to seal the pipe cleaner into the opening. I used red paint then seal it again with super glue. I add a bit of black with a prisma color marker. The same ones I have had since college art school to tone down the bright red. I seal the entire gill once again. I have posted the results.

  3. Thanks to the site, I have caught my share using swimbaits this season. This is my first D.D. Large Mouth Bass caught with a swimbait at 10 lbs. 3 oz and second overall D.D. My setup for the day was my Shimano Cardiff 400A loaded with 25lb. Triple Fish Camo Escent, and a 7'11'' Shimano Crucial Swimbait rod. The lake is starting to fill with weeds and the moss is starting to surface. In which forced myself to adjust the cadence of my retrieve. I got her 15 minutes into the session, thank fully as the weather was into the 90's. I painted the gills on thinking there would be old holdovers around and Bass looking for them. Lots of Catfish have taken the good spots near shore but there are still a few to be caught.
