    some baits

  2. Good to know! When you say you could grab the line and break it with your hand - are you using a lot of force with the drag buttoned down? I always make it a habit to do a test pull of the drag and line before I start my day/new lure.
  3. Lower hertz travels further through ambient air. Case in point - car with bass travelling down the street. You will here nothing but the bass. Not sure if it's the same case as water/liquid.
  4. I often 'sight fish'. I look for things that will allow me to find fish quicker. I look for bait fish (minnow / bluegill). I also look for birds of prey. Those 2 things alone help me eliminate some dead water. Hope this helps.
  5. I am trying to find a cost effective setup. I am sure to lose a rod/reel or 2 within the next couple of years. Is your son casting by himself? Did you ever think of using a spinning combo?
  6. WOW! Looks like a beast with him holding it. Great memories right there. What rod and reel? I am currently looking for a setup for young ones as well. Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks for the PDF! I have saved it for for future reference. What exactly am I looking at here? Yes, I weighed them with the feathers. The variance was 0.2grams. I was also weight my other hooks+rings without feathers for reference. This is the first time I am replacing them, and I have not ordered from Deps. The pricing and availability is the reason why I am choosing not to replace them through Deps. Thanks! EDIT: I just figured out what the chart represents. This is HUGE and very helpful! What scale are you using?
  8. I am looking for replacement hooks for the Bullshooter and Silent Killer. The Deps website indicates 2 different sizes - #1 and 1/0: - https://www.depsweb.co.jp/product/bullshooter160/top.html - https://www.depsweb.co.jp/product/250/250.html When I weigh them, they show being 3.0grams - 3.2grams. I have weighed all my hooks that are #1 and 1/0, but the closest I can get is approx 2.3grams. By chance does anyone have an ST66 1/0 and #1 hook they can weigh for me? I would like to replace these hooks with a hook that comes close to the same weight. I would prefer not to purchase the hooks from Deps again. Thanks in advance
  9. I own both, and it is one of my fav lures to have tied on. Right now, I see the new style will work much better for me and where I fish. It is lighter. I can fish it slower (and not have to worry about speeding it up to stop it from dropping to low in the water column). The gap is noticeably smaller, which allows for a tighter swim. Dont get me wrong, I still have love for the OG. It has one of the widest swims for the baits I throw. The downfall is that wide swim often gets more followers than committers. Using that to my advantage - it is often used as a search bait. ... now back to the new style: I like the new style much better because the smaller gap. If the cadence is slow enough - I can keep the swim <12inches. Right now I'm fishing the new style (even though it sinks less) more than the OG. I no longer feel the 'thump' of the OG style swim, which to me means I am fishing it significantly slower. If i were to rate it, I believe I am fishing it 1x - 2x slower than the OG. I fish a lot of water that is very skinny and has grass/vegetation 3ft-5ft below the surface. I will eventually go back to the OG style when I start fishing above 10ft-15ft of water again. Hope this helps.
  10. I believe the first $100 insurance coverage is free. So you may be able to get back $100 + shipping costs. FYI - what you paid for shipping is not the actual 'cost' of shipping. Courier claims suck - I feel your pain!
  11. I have used them on more than 1 occasion. I also used them on similar circumstances. As long as they snap back to it's original size after you put them on - you should be good to go. In most cases your line should be your weakest point - so I don't think they should every stretch out. One thing that came up in one of my discussions lately. Do you fish around wood a lot, or hang up a lot? If so, this is the only time where you want your rings under rated - and have the ability to pull free. Hope this helps!
  12. Do what feels naturally and comfortable for you. Better ergonomics (less required movements), and less strain on you - will allow you to fish longer. I am right hand dominant, and use lefty reels. This only wrong way is this way... LOL - but if it catch big fish, more power to you!
  13. CASTAIC Catch 22 Took 1 bite and was sold. The fish destroyed the reel, and peeled drag like I have never seen or heard before. Got schooled pretty quickly we had inadequate gear (rod, reel and line). After that bite, my friends and I sold all of our conventional gear.
  14. EDIT... missed the gift option. I dont recall anyone getting back money when its sent via gift. Hope you get this straightened out quickly.

  17. Regardless of bait, I get short strikes in the earlier parts of the year (Feb, Mar and Apr). I keep the bait moving, but do it as slow as I possibly can - in hopes the predator will catch up to it. Water is almost in the 50s here in the Midwest, and I am still getting tail biters. If your bait allows it - try a longer shank tail hook or a double split ring. It may turn those tail biters into landed fish. Hope this helps.
  18. ... rookie mistake - someone pls move this topic
  19. We have all these posts about protecting our gear and maintaining our lures. The better we protect ourselves, the longer we can fish! Just wanted to see how people are actively protecting themselves from the outdoor conditions, as well as the sun. Here are some recent purchases that I wear religiously regardless if I am fishing or not: Columbia Freezer Zero Arm Sleeves (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Columbia_Freezer_Zero_Arm_Sleeves/descpage-CFZS.html) - really does keeps you cool Under Armor Ridge Reaper Hydro Hoodie (https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/mens-ua-ridge-reaper-hydro-hoodie/pid1253127) - keeps you cool and conveniently has built in hood and buff
  20. Powerworm put me onto this rod, and now I have 2. Its paired with a Shimano Calcuata 401D, and it has reel seat problems. Sometimes it bothers me, and sometimes it doesn't. Instead of nitpicking, I choose to ignore it. I have not run into guide insert problems with this rod or any of my Dobyns rods (736c, 806, 807, 867 & 908). I throw hardgills all the way up to 250s on this. However, for me 6.5oz is pushing it on this rod. I feel the sweet spot is around 4.5oz. You can throw a hardgill on this rod, but in reality you are just using the length of the rod to launch the bait. It doesn't really load at that weight. It's my work horse, and I pretty much use it all the time. The only times I don't use it is when I require pinpoint accuracy - then I go back down to the 807. Hope this helps...
