I use 65lb power pro in moss green for my lunker punkers. I dont like casting knots thru my guides so I dont use a leader but a 30lb monofilament leader would not get fouled on the front hook nearly as often as straight braid does. I personally dont think the braid scares line shy fish away on a fairly fast moving topwater bait. Just remember to adjust your drag so it isn't too tight or you will rip the treble hooks out of the bass.
Been there done that. It cost me a big bass.

I just used pressure treated plywood with outdoor carpet in my jon boat and it has lasted almost 20 years so far but it stays in my garage and when it gets wet from fishing in the rain I leave it out in the sun to dry really good before putting it in the garage or under a cover.
Letting it stay saturated for long periods of time will cause the wood to rot much faster.
With all of that being said when I redo it I will probably use aluminum next time.

It will be OK to fish it without that guide.
If you email Dobyns he will send you a free replacement guide. I've had the same problem in the past so I bought the beginner rod builing kit and now I repair my own rods. I even repaired a rod for my brother earlier this year while in a wheelchair with a broke ankle.

Wish I lived there because I would fish that spot every day and tell my friends about all of the big bass that lives under Ken's dock.

Sold.

Used Deps 250 in Bloody Carp. It was fished with very little and is in excellent condition. I tried to research the value of this and the prices were all over the place so please PM me a fair offer if you are interested.
Thanks for looking

Bump this from 2019. What are people’s thoughts on this topwater?
I bought one after I started this post and I was not overly impressed. It was difficult for me to get a good walking action out of it but I'm used to the wooden punker so maybe it was just me and I only fished it one time so maybe I should have fished it more. If you are interested in buying it at a good price PM me.

Hey Underground,
2021 has been a rough year for me and now my company (I can't tell the name until it makes the news) has now locked us out of work without pay until my union agrees with their ridiculous contract demands so I have decided to sell some swimbaits that I don't fish with to get some cash in my account to" prepare for the worst and pray for the best". There will probably be many more swimbaits to come because I have an addiction like all of you and have many more then I need. I wanted to give you all the short story of why I'm suddenly trying to sell some baits. I'm not looking for pity and I don't want charity so please only make me an offer if you are truly interested in them. Please PM me a fair offer if you are interested in any or all of these. I don't expect to make a profit but would like to get a fair price for them. I have never sold a swimbait before so bear with me and I will figure this out and I will try very hard to make sure you get your swimbait ASAP. Thanks for reading , James

I tend to set my drag a little loose when fishing hard swimbaits with trebles ( maybe 10 lbs of drag) and when fishing weedless or top hook swimbaits I tighten the drag up to about 15 or 20 lbs of drag depending on what type of line I am fishing. Monofiliment will absorb some of the shock of a hard surge at the boat but braid will rip the hooks out if the drag is too tight. It's a judgement call.

Toilet paper!!! and some hand tools like a Klein 10 in 1 screwdriver , a Klein multi stripper tool and a pair of channel locks , a 8 inch adjustable wrench, electrical tape, some wire and some butt splice sta-kons. Jumper cables , a spare boat plug, a rain suit , and a cell phone charger may save the day also. Of course all of the required safety gear is a must.

That sucks and this world sucks now. Shortage on everything because of covid they say which I think is BS. People aren't working because they get free money. There was a sign at the local taco bell saying $600 hiring bonus WTF. One thing at a time has a shortage and they raise the price, then it is the next and so on. From toilet paper to Jello for my daughter's lunch. We are all in this together....WTF.
Look at the shortage and price of ammo....
Went to the Mercedes dealership to get my wife a new one, they had one on the lot she liked with a 95K sticker, I was thinking 88 to 89K. They said they are getting 15K over sticker so that is it if I want it.
Crazy....
Glad you found one and congratulations. I am sure we will be seeing some pigs caugh from it soon.
I totally agree. We've had enough of this BS. I bought the last 46 inch lawn tractor in my area and I was told it would be at least 4 months to get one now. I'm glad I bought that one.
They need to stop all of this extra unemployment and it will force people to have to carry their lazy butts back to work and get this country back on track and if these other countries cant supply us with the parts we need , then maybe we should try something really crazy like making it here in the USA. I know that sounds crazy but it might just work.

Hey Underground,
I struggle to catch bass after the post spawn when the bass start to move deep (when I say deep I am talking 12 to 20 feet for my lakes). What swimbaits and/or techniques do you use to catch big summer bass on drop offs or ledges or in river channels and etc. that you care to share? I searched the site and didn't find anything on this subject but maybe I didn't enter the right search words to find it,
Thanks for any help and Thanks to all of the active military and veterans out there. Happy Memorial Day. God Bless America.

Damn, congrats on a true giant. I'm still waiting on a double digit , much less one in the teens .

There is usually a big lull at first post spawn. Then you know it's over when they start hitting topwaters.

There are so many other options that ship fast and free (or cheap). Just some of the ones I use are:
Tackle Direct
Hookup Tackle
Carolina Tackle
J&H Tackle
American Legacy
I'm well aware there are other options. I have ordered from Bass Pro Shops and Hookup Tackle in the last month but I like to support this site if possible by ordering from Tackle Warehouse by clicking on the link but obviously Tackle Warehouse has turned their back on us loyal customers. They do still have one of the best selections but who wants to wait a month?
Not me!!!

I placed an order on April 23 and it hasn't shipped yet. I guess the days of ordering tackle on Saturday night and getting it delivered by Friday over here on the east coast are gone for good. I'm worried that convenient things like fast free shipping at several companies will never go back to the pre covid days.

I throw my 6 inch wood punkers on a I Rod jr swimbait rod. It serves my needs but everyone has different preferences.
-
5 minutes if I'm willing to tolerate all of the jet skiers, water skiers, and tournament fishermen or 1 to 1 1/2 hours to fish 2 relaxing 10 hp or less lakes.
I will take the drive over the ski traffic and the tournament fishermen who think they should have priority of fishing the community holes rather than first come first serve. I guess I'm a grumpy old man now but give me peace and solitude with a better chance of catching a double digit bass over a short drive.
-
I have 2 Irod Jr swimbait rods and I like them. I use them for Hudd 68s, Real Preys, 6' wood Lunker Punker, and Alabama rigs. I also have a Dobyns 795 that I use with my smaller hard baits like the hardgill and it seems to have more of a parabolic action that I prefer with hard baits. Just my personal preference but go with what works for you. Maybe go to a tackle shop and put your hands on them to see which you prefer.

1= Matt Lures - Because Matt makes awesome swimbaits that are more available and more affordable than most hyped swimbaits. (I'm sure there are some other great swimbaits out there but if you have to be on social media and wait a year to get them, they will never be on my favorites list )
2= MS Slammer = Great swimbaits and great customer service.
3= Real Prey - Great soft swimbaits that are very durable and readily available with great customer service.

Another Flipper. I hope it doesnt sell. I got cart jacked for one to fish with 2 weekends in a row and I have zero but I refuse to give the flippers a dishonest profit. We should stick together as a swimbait underground family and just be patient and wait to get one at retail price and not give into temptation to buy one at the flipper price . I want one as bad as anyone but I refuse to give in. Hopefully there will be more available in 2021.
God bless and Merry Christmas to all.
