  1. I use 65lb power pro in moss green for my lunker punkers. I dont like casting knots thru my guides so I dont use a leader but a 30lb monofilament leader would not get fouled on the front hook nearly as often as straight braid does. I personally dont think the braid scares line shy fish away on a fairly fast moving topwater bait. Just remember to adjust your drag so it isn't too tight or you will rip the treble hooks out of the bass. Been there done that. It cost me a big bass.
  2. I just used pressure treated plywood with outdoor carpet in my jon boat and it has lasted almost 20 years so far but it stays in my garage and when it gets wet from fishing in the rain I leave it out in the sun to dry really good before putting it in the garage or under a cover. Letting it stay saturated for long periods of time will cause the wood to rot much faster. With all of that being said when I redo it I will probably use aluminum next time.
  3. It will be OK to fish it without that guide. If you email Dobyns he will send you a free replacement guide. I've had the same problem in the past so I bought the beginner rod builing kit and now I repair my own rods. I even repaired a rod for my brother earlier this year while in a wheelchair with a broke ankle.
  4. Wish I lived there because I would fish that spot every day and tell my friends about all of the big bass that lives under Ken's dock.
  5. Used Deps 250 in Bloody Carp. It was fished with very little and is in excellent condition. I tried to research the value of this and the prices were all over the place so please PM me a fair offer if you are interested. Thanks for looking
  6. I bought one after I started this post and I was not overly impressed. It was difficult for me to get a good walking action out of it but I'm used to the wooden punker so maybe it was just me and I only fished it one time so maybe I should have fished it more. If you are interested in buying it at a good price PM me.
  7. Hey Underground, 2021 has been a rough year for me and now my company (I can't tell the name until it makes the news) has now locked us out of work without pay until my union agrees with their ridiculous contract demands so I have decided to sell some swimbaits that I don't fish with to get some cash in my account to" prepare for the worst and pray for the best". There will probably be many more swimbaits to come because I have an addiction like all of you and have many more then I need. I wanted to give you all the short story of why I'm suddenly trying to sell some baits. I'm not looking for pity and I don't want charity so please only make me an offer if you are truly interested in them. Please PM me a fair offer if you are interested in any or all of these. I don't expect to make a profit but would like to get a fair price for them. I have never sold a swimbait before so bear with me and I will figure this out and I will try very hard to make sure you get your swimbait ASAP. Thanks for reading , James
  8. I tend to set my drag a little loose when fishing hard swimbaits with trebles ( maybe 10 lbs of drag) and when fishing weedless or top hook swimbaits I tighten the drag up to about 15 or 20 lbs of drag depending on what type of line I am fishing. Monofiliment will absorb some of the shock of a hard surge at the boat but braid will rip the hooks out if the drag is too tight. It's a judgement call.
  9. Toilet paper!!! and some hand tools like a Klein 10 in 1 screwdriver , a Klein multi stripper tool and a pair of channel locks , a 8 inch adjustable wrench, electrical tape, some wire and some butt splice sta-kons. Jumper cables , a spare boat plug, a rain suit , and a cell phone charger may save the day also. Of course all of the required safety gear is a must.
  10. I totally agree. We've had enough of this BS. I bought the last 46 inch lawn tractor in my area and I was told it would be at least 4 months to get one now. I'm glad I bought that one. They need to stop all of this extra unemployment and it will force people to have to carry their lazy butts back to work and get this country back on track and if these other countries cant supply us with the parts we need , then maybe we should try something really crazy like making it here in the USA. I know that sounds crazy but it might just work.
  11. First thing you should do is bend your hook out slightly like you do on a frog and when you hook it , reel them in quickly without letting any slack in the line, Your drag should be set really tight and you reel hard until its in the boat. Good Luck
  12. Hey Underground, I struggle to catch bass after the post spawn when the bass start to move deep (when I say deep I am talking 12 to 20 feet for my lakes). What swimbaits and/or techniques do you use to catch big summer bass on drop offs or ledges or in river channels and etc. that you care to share? I searched the site and didn't find anything on this subject but maybe I didn't enter the right search words to find it, Thanks for any help and Thanks to all of the active military and veterans out there. Happy Memorial Day. God Bless America.
