  1. Why the hell is this thread still going? go here, and read: viewtopic.php?t=2660
  2. haha yep. What's a buff?
  3. Yeah, they might have the DD Large mouth out on the west coast, but we've got the big stipers over here. Delaware state record is 52lbs, caught right off my home beach. Being in Delaware I'm pretty set up, they run right down the coast to the Chesapeake Bay and head up into all the bays/rivers/canals. This past year, we didn't get much NE wind to blow em up tight on the shore, they stayed about a mile off, but the year before was amazing, they stuck around all winter, and people were slaying em.
  4. I have to agree with jace, poplar is a great middle ground, and pretty readily available.
  5. That small mouth looks phenomenal!
  6. Hahaha Yes! This. Haha. Nice fish to get you started!
  7. Nice work as always! Can't wait for paint!
  8. Looks great! 4' is pretty damn good for it not being a "crank down" specific lure.
  9. Those look sick! Can't wait to see more progress.
  10. Yeah this is turning into an awesome threat for bait makers / tinkerers. I've often thought about how water flows/resists baits and wanted to put them in a tank with flowing water, and add dye to see how it flowed over the lure, just like a wind tunnel for planes and cars. Everything is just theory until it's proven or disproved. There used to be a video on youtube that showed the difference between the 2 really well, can't find it now, but I did find this: Same bait, different joints. No clue how strict he was with all the other variables though.
  11. This was exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot! I was thinking all of this in my head, and it sounded good theoretically, but wanted some first hand insight.
  12. Awesome! I was wondering if you were going to do a glide, can't wait to see a swim video. Thanks for your YouTube and blog too, really helpful stuff. Inspired me to carve full scales in my baits and buy an airbrush! The scales are a pain, but like you said in the video, well worth the time and effort.
  13. Can you take a picture or 2 of the mod? I'd like to do the same to my 8"
  14. Tried to add this to previous post, but it was too late As far as rat baits go, has anyone noticed a difference in the joint styles? I.e.- reverse v joint vs. Regular v joint? I've been wanting one, but there's a ton of options and little things like that help in decision making. I do know that a reverse v joint tends to be more mechanical looking when used on fish swimbaits.
  15. It's awesome living that close to the water isn't it? I've got 2 ponds like that. Fun to take a break from bassin and get drunk in the summer and do some catfishing at night. Lazy easy drunk fishing haha.
  16. That looks awesome man! I was watching Solar's videos on YouTube last night and think I'm going to get an airbrush and try it out. Check out his videos and blog, super helpful. Hope when I get my brush I can do half as good as you when I get the hang of it.
  17. I've used this, but you'll need to keep an eye on the lure once done, and flip it if it starts to run. Some guys buy old rotisserie chicken cookers and pull the motor out and build a bait turner so when they top coat they put it on the turner and it keeps the top coat nice an even. But if you're only doing one, if your careful and take your time you don't need it, just pay attention.
  18. Do it, Walnut is awesome wood. I've built all sorts of stuff out of it, banjos, stair cases, kitchens, all out of local figured Walnut. Walnut burl is some awesome stuff if you ever get to work with it too. Not for lures though haha. I've been wanting to stain and clear coat a few of my lures just to hang up in the garage kind of like trophies. But every time I just end up fishing them instead haha. I think if you were careful and stained a lure with different color stains it would look really cool. Like if you had poplar/soft maple, and wanted a golden shiner, you could do the same staining process as guitar makers when they do the Sunburst type finish, and it would look cool as hell. I love wood grain. Show that sh*t off! /end hijack
  19. Hence the "it's been a long time" thing haha. Listened to it for a laugh. They did open the doors to some good music for me back in the day though And I agree with colorway, what happened to paint job, scheme, pattern, ect?
  20. misanthropy? ... welcome to the club kind sir! Haha. This. I fish to get away from all the BS. You just made me go listen to dimmu borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. Lol been a long time since I listened to that stuff.
  21. Free bump for this! If it was wrapped to the right I'd be all over it. Great rod, someone grab it!
  22. Gizzard shad can get pretty big. They can reach a length of 22.5 inches (57Â cm), and weigh up to 4.37Â lbs (1980 grams). Taken from wiki. Not the best forage fish because they grow so fast, and become too big to easily eat. But, that said, there's a ton of em around me and any swimbait that looks like a shad in the fall will get slammed.
