  1. I'm no pro but I fish straight 65# Power Pro using a double Palomar for my BAA, Rats, Punkers, TT, big wakes, and a couple other situations and never had a problem. I fish 25# cheap arse BigGame with a Palomar for 8-11oz baits and never had a problem. Keep it fresh and re-tie. For Hudds I use 20# Pline Ult. Fluorocarbon with a Palomar; however, I've casted off two or three while using an inadequate rod with a shitty cast. Hasn't happened again since switching up the rod I throw them on. Not saying it's the way to go for everyone but it's worked for me. I really think having the proper rod for the bait helps you get fluid motion casts and lowers the risk of sending your hard earned cash sailing untethered into the wind. I've experimented with leaders and other knots and have done alright but I stick with what I have confidence in. Just my $0.02. Sorry about your bait dude... best of luck figuring what works for you.
  2. Top Ramen, I was told the discount is for active/retired military only by the guys at Dobyns, am I mistaken? I'd hate to be paying full price as a vet if I could get 30% off. Thanks for your help and sorry if I'm Hijacking the post. If there is no vet discount anyone can nab one for $231 at hookeduptackle till the end of the month.
  3. kinda creepy haha j/k... but seriously...
  4. Just a heads up, I was informed Dobyns military discount is active/retired military only... average Joe vets need not apply. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for... I spent a couple years throwing the Okuma guide selects and rods in that price range; got to love those warranties because you will probably use them. First day I tossed a Hudd on my Loomis 956 I kicked myself for not dropping the extra money in the first place. First day with a Dobyns and I kicked myself again for the same reason. Not saying you will catch bigger fish or better bags; however, you body will thank you as your baits will sail further with less effort. I'm sure there are much more reputable sources on here; however, I'm just stating my assessments based on my own trial and error over the last several years.
  5. Thanks for the heads up on this subject; sorry so many of you got screwed. As far as blasting people on here goes... I feel almost as if it is a responsibility we each have as enthusiasts to notify like minded individuals of BS like this. After months of trying to resolve the issue in a civil manner behind closed doors I think it's fair to call someone out on their BS.
  6. I've thrown this bait for hours (over 80) with just bumps and pokes. Nothing seems willing to fully commit. I've experimented with numerous different set ups and retrieves and it always ends up the same old deal. Let me know if something works out for you, otherwise I'm about to put mine on the "BlackMarket". I've had friends stick'em no problem on the bottom hook model. I might just be used to bigger baits and am finding it hard throwing such a small, well moving, glide and not sticking them.
  7. Dude that second one has some shoulders, tall as hell too. Hope you see her again in a couple years; nicely done sir
  8. Hard to say... it's like trying to pick your favorite song; it all depends on the mood you're in I guess. TT's, BAA floater, 10 Real Prey, 7.5" rat, and the 8" Hudd all have a place on my favorites playlist. Each bite is intense but I think the Hudd gets me GEEKED the most. It's almost boring to fish at times but when it gets bit there is a chemical reaction that takes place and instantly I'm jacked and dialed in. There is also that split second with a Hudd where you don't know what size fish you are dealing with yet... "could it be the big one?" goes through my head immediately after setting the hook every time. Speedbead, awesome H.L. Mencken quote!

Also have nothing but good things to say... Stand up dude!
  10. Thanks for the good review man, I've been throwing the slow sink a lot this last week or two. One solid hit but she came unbuttoned when she broke the surface. Nothing big, maybe 5# on a BB rig but with an added stinger along the back. I've been throwing it on the Dobyns 867 but feel like it's at the top end of the sweet spot. Wish I had a 908 to try it out on... can't wait to toss the Medium sink around this week. Good luck and keep us posted on how these continue working for you. Thanks again for showing me others are rigging it similar to myself; confidence boost.
  11. The gal's got some shoulders, nice work. San Diego has made me soft haha 49 degrees sounds rough.
  12. Whoa Whoa Whoa, you bagged a deer and a bass all in a days work??? You sir are my hero! Just gave me another thing that must be added to the bucket list! Awesome job... feel like sending any venison out to San Diego?
  13. "He has the bait building on the back burner right now due to other priorities of life. Just spoke to him not too long ago." "He's doing well, just busy with work and stuff like that." Good to hear, I figured it was something like that; it happens. I'm just appreciative of the time he took to dial me in on some of the really big stuff. If he gets back up and running I hope I'm still on the list for whatever he comes up with next. Squid07, sorry if I kinda Hijacked your post; I'll keep my eyes out for you man.
  14. "You try emailing andrew?" Last I heard there was a 1.5 month wait list I was on... 6 months ago or so. I hope everything is okay with him. He sounded so geeked to be building these baits then just never heard anything again. Let me know how it works out for you man.
  15. 70/30... There is not a more intense bite then the big stuff; however, I still have fun utilizing other tools. I often miss out on really good opportunities because I'm addicted to the feeling of a big bait bite... You just never know what is on the other end of the line when you are throwing a 10" bait.
  16. I'm in if something doesn't work out. They are still chewing that BAA you hooked me up with earlier this year buddy.
  17. You don't have to twist my arm into a good time
  18. Damn I literally just got done switching several tools out to ST41 2/0's after having success with them on a BAA. I've hooked several fish who just mildly swated at the BAA so I took that as the hooks being superior to my previous ST-36s. I've been working hard lately for bites over 7#'s so I don't want that first one in a hot minute to come unbuttoned. Thanks for the heads up on the 41's wish I saw this about an hour ago. With any luck I'll find out if they are up for the task tomorrow and provide better feedback of my own.
