  1. t_tatham19, thanks. I've used Curado's for years but really have never used a Diawa or an Okuma reel. Just wondered how they compare.
  2. I used the search function but did not find much. How does Okuma's Komodo compare to the Shimano Curado and the Diawa Lexa? Ergo's , smoothness, casting ability and longevity. I don't see it mentioned and only got 5 results back on the search.
  3. Thanks fellas, I appreciate the welcome and the replies. I'm sure I'll ask a dumb question or three before I get it. When I get a day off I'm going to hit some local places for the Spro and order a hudd 68 from Tackle Warehouse. There's a smallish lake here that is managed and stocked with Florida strain I fish regular. I think its a good place for swimbaits and learning. I know there is a lake record waiting on me in there too. The 3:16 top hook and slammer will come after I get geared up. That is just around the corner. I'll order a reel but rods are hands on first for me. Anyone know a place in my area that carries these types of rods ? I
  4. Thanks fellas, I"ll be getting a MS slammer too after I get rolling. I've got several decent fish to my credit with regular baits but I want to boat a DD. 9+ is my personal best right now. I just got back into fishing after a long break and I'm stoked about the swimbaits. I'll keep reading and get some baits ordered. Hopefully I'll be back with a pic soon.
  5. I've been lurking in the background reading for a little and have decided to start throwing swimbaits. I'll start slow with Hudd and Spro 6" baits and work up. My equipment will be lacking for a while but I'll deal with it till things come together. I have an old Falcon Flipping stick (heavy action) and an ABU 6500 spooled with 20# big game for starters. I've been throwing the smaller KVD caffiene shad (5"?) with good results but I think I can move up in size now. Local Lakes to me in Texas are Lake Conroe, Lake Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. Also a host of smaller lakes with potential. Lake Records in this area run around 15-16 #'s. Oh and the occasional trip to Lake Fork. I'll pick up a Okuma rod and Shimano Cardiff later or a Diawa Lexa 300, probably the Diawa. I figure two baits, one in a perch pattern or shad and a trout pattern. Is there anything I should reconsider fellas?
