That particular fish followed the day before, I came back the next day and fished it faster. Instead of a slow slalom I went to a medium to fast retrieve.

Knowing what I know now, I would have started and probably ended at Deps 250, Swaver 200, Hudd 68's, Rat bait/Ms Slammer, Mattlures bluegill and a few 8" Hudds

6" Weedless Hudd, get 2, a ROF 5 and ROF 12 -
Mine has been tough as nails so far, XH, not the best rod but has done what I asked.

GL-2 957C Seagar Abrazx 25LB Curado 300 E Deps 250 Keta Basu

That should work for big females!

I'm in Texas too, fish Lake Conroe. As far as rods go I started with a Diawa XH swimbait rod and went to GLoomis GL2 957. Awesome rod for the heavies. Lots of choices though. I'm using a Shimano Curado 300E, love it. My best producing baits so far have been glides. Deps 250 and the R2S S-waver 200 (Warden). 6" Hudds work in cooler months too. I would pick up a Bull Shad and a rat type wake bait/slammer. The biggest revelation for me was the Deps 250, lots of followers and some were huge. Packs of bass sometimes. The S-waver catches fish too. Read a lot here and decide where you want to start. It's helpful.

Cardiff out of those reels, 300 size is perfect.

The shimano will last longer but its huge, my suggestion is the shimano curado 300. If not that the lexa with a regular handle.

Give 25# Abrazx a shot, I really liked it for the 250, I am currently using 25# Big Game for it but I believe the action isn't as good with it. I never felt like I would pop off the 250 with Abrazx and did have a thumb slip on a hard cast once expecting the Deps to go flying into deep water. It didn't and fished the line for a while longer before I respooled. I'll be ordering some more ASAP.

Light , smallish framed reel is where the Shimano Cardiff 300/301A reel excels.
-
Nail weighted mine, swims just under the surface to 1ft depending on whether I let it sink. I think I'll start following up the Deps with it to see if I can get those followers. Its tophooked right now but I may go back to a bottom hook. I like the idea of a feathered hook.

Deps 250 , Huddleston 68 & 8" the best of the bunch.
