I have caught some fish on the small slammer. It's a nice little bait. I wish there where two hooks but my hook up ratio has been decent on it. You will catch fish of all sizes but my biggest on it has been about three pounds. But I love it on clam nights great bait to build confidence in the slammer.

My home lake similar to the one you described and I found the best way is to make your on structure. We generally use xmas trees but any hardwood will do. Just take a five gallon bucket fill it half way put the tree in it. Also if you drag out limbs a cinderblock and a ratchet strap. We generally put five to ten trees but any will do fine.
