  1. All day long today. Cardiff 400, new 250 on a Okuma GS Heavy, 25 cxx. Its a used rod and reel I bough off of the black market. I was throwing it on a damiki dark angel rated for 2-10oz before. It felt grossly underpowered for the deps and I like a longer handle. Bottom line if its what you got it will work. For me personally it loads the rod the way I like. To each his own, if you can try before you buy.
  2. I agree that flipping baits on ebay is a super-doucher move from a company. One that would guarantee I would take my business elsewhere. If the guy I deal with locally makes $84.99 selling a bait at MSRP I'm OK with that. To me personally It's no different than him buying a bait at $9.50 and selling it to me for $17.99. He sold all 16 he got in 3 hrs. He was also limiting one per customer in an effort to quell some of the flipping(he had multiple offers to buy all). All in all I'm just saying that everybody is not a crook. If things are actually being sold at MSRP then go after the people setting the MSRP.
  3. Does anyone know how much standard markup is on tackle? Why should a shop sell anything for what it costs them. A business is in business to make a profit. Free market will regulate itself. I paid 179.99 + tax for a flash carp. The same as I paid for the trout I bought from the last release of the old style. If the stores are getting them for $95 and MSRP is 179.99 I dont see the problem. A percentage is a percentage. What If the store buys a bait for $5 and sells it for $10? Everybody is ripping us off, I'm sure they don't have any overhead to cover like lights, water, rent. Im sure supply will catch up just like the 175's and if people stop buying the price will adjust.
  4. From what I understand Black Dog is supposed to have some stuff at the classic not available anywhere else(paint wise) I was hoping to see some spro rats but there but who knows.
  5. Just wondering if anybody has plans to make it. Looks like the new 175 SS color will be available.
  6. I have a Used 175 Slide Swimmer Flash Carp from the first release of the 175's this year. It's in good shape. I have about 2 days of fishing on it. $110-price includes pay-pal fees and shipping Id rather sell right out BUT Looking For Gill Biats other than got'em coach. Multiple baits or single and cash. Depends on trade offer Hardgill's, MCL wake, 6" mcl gill, Glide gill XSS
  7. 1. Break into the DD's 2. Learn more about big fish behavior on my home resivoir 3. HAVE FUN DOING IT!
  8. good one. I wish I had a good pond to fish in around here. Unfourtunately I'm stuck spending most of y days on th NC "dead sea". Nice to see some other carolina folks.
  9. I have only fished mine a handful of times. I have yet to catch a fish on it, I like to slow role and it just doesnt swim that well at low speeds. The spotted bass really like the tail, lots trying to take it off. Sealing it with epoxy is a must if you dont like chipped and scratched paint, paint chips pretty easily at the joints. I would spend a few more dollars and get a triple trout. BUT if you like the AR, by all means, I'm sure it catches fish it just dont throw it much.
  10. He sledgehammered it. Good one!
  11. At first I was a naysayer. That being said, If you want hard evidence google "Butch Brown deps 250". Completely changed my outlook. Do I catch fish like he does? Not even in my dreams! BUT they produce. Period. If they seem to expensive fish a Hudd. Cheap(relatively speaking) and Proven. I may have read it somewhere or it just came to mind on a SLOW day last week Just remember "If your not prepared to loose it, your not prepared to use it"
  12. check out makelure.com in the videos and look for "creating and carving lures out of resin" video and start watching at about the 12:15 min mark. Thats how I do alot of my connctions.
  13. A copy of Southern Trout Eaters will help big time. It demystified alot for me and gives a direction to head in.
  14. Looks good. I was wondering how good those scale-ers worked.
  15. That's super cool man. You did a great job. I need to stop piling all my stuff in the corner.
  16. As far as weight I'm taking bullet weights and squeezing them in a vice to make a little cylinder. I have some ruined 40 cal. bullet molds with handles I was going to drill out to just pour the cylinders instead of bullet weights. To get a rough idea of weight I use rubberbands to situate hardware and lead then sit it in water just as somthing to go off of. I made another last night off my extra blank. Added 1 oz lead and moved the joint back a little. Didnt foam fill the upper portion. Nothing doing still not enough bouyancy. Just waiting on more resin and microballoons. I cheaped out on the micro balloons and it bit me. im thinkin Yup, I mean belly to back rolling.
  17. Thanks bro. I've made several multi-jointed baits and had some good luck with them. The GLIDE has been killing me. I've just not been able to nail it down completely. The nose taper advice is much appreciated. Never thought of it causing too much drag. It still has a little head rock but I liken it to a dying shad. Just have to SLOW role it but it does swim. Forgot to mention, it came in at 5.7oz and suprisingly doesnt helicopter that bad. Hope to post a video soon but everybody is out of town and my wife is shopping all weekend. Back to the shop.....
  18. After much trial and error and alot of putting down for months and picking back up I finally decided to finish and it has all come together. Let me start off by saying I am no expert and any input would be appreciated. I'm here to bounce some ideas around. Finally decided to do alot of experimentation and just figure out a "cheap" silicone mold. I have every intention or real RTV pourable on my next batch. I had to figure out a cheaper way to prototype. Cash for a construction worker in winter can get lean. Got a good recipe and while not perfect you can pull a decent mold if you take your time. 1. dremeled for hours on a piece of pvc board for HOURS. Did a rough shaping and then a coat of bondo. More sanding, another coat of bondo, and more sanding. Then I cut in facial features. Also head the bright idea to cut scales in. This became time consuming so if your working on a new design for function I would suggest skipping this part(I'm prone to complicating things. 2. Cast a mold and let sit for about 3 hours. Seach for "make your own DIY silicone mold putty". Theirs another option but im still working on it. 3.Cast some baits to figure out joints and such. This was my first time with resin. I used alumilite super plastic. I didn't use enough micro balloons I dont think. They floated but not very good. 4. Cut in half and used a cotter pin hinge system. No real science just a shot in the dark. Compared it to other glides 5. Was happy I didn't have to add much weight. It was a problem in disguise. I used swivels as hook hangers and used cheap epoxy putty to tighten um up. I have had good luch doing hangers this way in the past year. didnt have any stainless wire to make the wire tie so I used a swivel(bad Idea) 6. Test Swim 1(Failure) at first it was really wide glide with alot of head rock. Then the swivel started turning and it started spiraling 7. Came home hollowed out upper section and filled with superfoam. added an extra 1/2 oz of weight in head. Not enough micro ballons seemed like their was not enough opposing force between flotation and weight to stabilize a bait with this profile on retrieve. Also made a new stainless wire line tie and mounted into bait 8. Back to the boat ramp a few hrs later. Test swim two. Wide glide(oh yeah almost there) slow retieve. Still need a little more weight. Head rock is acceptable for me 9. Back home added anothe 1/4 oz in head and bingo. It did what it was supposed to. 10. Paint, doll eyes(hobby lobby) clear and a paint brush tail this morning. Hope to post a swim video tonight. I got her tuned in the dark last night. Gonna try and get some film this afternoon
  19. They WILL come down in price(mabey). I just got my first one today. Their is at least one shop that is selling them for MSRP or at least close to it. He only got 10 and said he had already had a guy try to buy all 10. His policy is one each on the 250's. Long story short, he's good dude that wants repeat business and likes to be fair. If you dont mind paying the "Buy It Now" price then by all means. Supply and demand. It's only gouging if you HAVE to buy it. Things will settle at some point. It's still a steep bait for me at what I paid but as it was said "you have to pay to play". On a side note He said the next batch of 175's would be shipping soon and his supplier said he should have about 6 colors even spoke about the GC 300
  20. LeatherFace deps? Did it come with a chainsaw?
  21. At least Florida isn't getting 2.5lbs. I had herd that they had been annexed by New York. Mabey that was just Boca.
  22. Swims great. I'm using 15 an 17lb FC. Havnt tried anythig heavier
  23. Welcome to the "Hole in the water" club. I put off buying a boat for years but now if mine blew up or sank I would have a new one by the end of the week. Dont know what I ever did without a boat. Insurance is never a bad idea. Lower unit replaced by insurance on account of a Big floating piece of wood some years back. My rate has been reasonable and you can include all you tackle and electronics too. Gives peace of mind. Colby is right big time about keeping a nest egg for boat repair. Maintain, Maintain, Maintain. Speedy repair is key( you will definatley need it at some point). Its a labor of love. Congrats and nice looking rig!
  24. Makes me realize theirs no way but up
