After a decent half day of fishing on the bay, I decided to pick up the swimbait rod and head to the lake. Got to the lake around 3 o'clock to see jetskiers and pleasure boaters all around the lake. A little discouraged but still determined I parked the car and headed to my first spot. With nothing happening I move down the bank and stop at a point that I've had success at before. I cast out on the right side of the point and get a good follower. With my hopes raised a little bit I move towards a shallow rock pile. As I get to the rock pile I debate on whether or not to make a cast knowing most of the fish right now are deep, but figure what the heck I might as well. I cast to the right of the rock pile and start bringing my swimbait in. As it gets closer to the rock pile I do a directional change on the frontside, and then as it passes the rock, a directional change on the backside. As I do the directional change on the backside of the rockpile I see a big flash and swirl. Thinking that the fish missed the bait I let it sit there and slowly float back up. Right as the bait gets to the surface she comes back and goes completely airborne with bait in her mouth. I set the hook and can't move her an inch. I eventually get her head turned and bring her to the shore. As I pick her up I realize it's the biggest bass I've ever caught. But as I get her on the scale I notice how skinny it is. The scale evens out at 8.0. Getting a picture was a little tricky since I was the only one there but I eventually got it figured out. I set my phone up and get some good pictures and let her go. I watch the bass swim away and just can't believe it. 5 previous trips with nothing to show for it and then I get the biggest bass of the year.
