  1. Wow. Just 6" square wire? We call it page wire or women wire. How do you weigh it down? Or I might ask how would you weigh it given 8 food depth. Do you use rope or fishing line?
  2. Wow, I can't believe the great ideas. I said 40' x 40' or 1,600 SF. Thanks for catching that. Really it might be smaller than that. It might be more like 20' x 40'. Still a large area. The lake is 2.5 hours away, so the weather will have to make for perfect conditions for me to go there this weekend. If that happens, I've grabbed a 2' wide construction magnet. My brother in law let me borrow it. It will take a lot of rigging with rope, etc. I've also taken advantage of TW's Memorial Day sale, and have two new 8" Bull Shads coming. A giant sawed off my first one, and I did what I did with my backup. I was sick. I have not ruled out swimming for it either, but would have to borrow fins and mask. It is a stumpy lake. I also have considered what was said, a fish may have grabbed it anyway, as it will be a week by the time I can get back. Due to size of area, and if I'm driving 2.5 hours it will be great fishing weather, I am leaning towards using the new ones. That said, I should have a magnet roller rig should I think I can pull it off via gridding, as was suggested. Ya'll are awesome!
  3. I dropped a Bull Shad. I know, some people look down on it, but it is my first try at swimbaits, and I've had a lot of luck on it. I clipped the business end of my line, and thought I had clipped the tag end. I threw it over. I know within 160 square feet or a 40' x 40' area. It is in 8 to 9 feet of water. There is some light to medium wood on the bottom and light rocks mixed with clay. I dragged a carolina rig for an hour, and I couldn't find it. I'm may go back. Or am I wasting my time? Thinking of dragging a towel or sheet, but don't know. Anyone ever had luck finding a swimbait? I bumped into a guru, and he told me not to feel too stupid, he had done it with a Deps 250. Any thoughts?
  4. There most certainly was a clean cut with one large abrasion. Thanks for the feedback!
  5. My son lost a TN River 8-9 pounder. The big fish were on the prowl. A large fish hit his 6" bull shad swimbait. He set the hook hard with 25 pound Big Game. To his surprise, the line snapped about 2 seconds into the fight. He reties every fish and changes his line out every trip. He's an expert at the palomar. He then proceeded to catch a 8 pounder. Lake record is 14 and change, so a true monster is always a possibility. So the question is, did a monster bass bite through his line? There are gar in the area, and the rare bowfin. We are thinking "Toothy Critter" but wondered if it could have been a largemouth. Thoughts?
  6. I have the 795 Fury and am have been throwing up to 3.5 ounce baits. It is sweet. I have heard good things about the OKUMA as well.
  7. I have a 795 Fury. So far I've only caught one on it. I just got it a few weeks ago. Seems good to me, but I was using a 7'6" lightning rod shock before, so I'm easy to please.
  8. Check your knots man. You killed a trophy by slow death.
  9. The biggest bass I have ever had on was likely between 12 and 13 pounds. Not big by your western standards, but a giant of the Tennessee River. The lake record in that particular impoundment is less than 15 pounds. The biggest I have caught is 9.5 pounds, and it looked like a minnow in comparison. I had a wind come up that allowed for a perfect drift of the area I wanted to fish. I turned off all electronics and the trolling motor and "sneaked up" on her. She hit a Skinny Dipper. My Curado 200B had its drag locked down and she was stripping it. Had I not hung her so close to the boat, I think I would have got her. I was headed north and she was headed south and the 6/0 just popped out because I couldn't go the same direction with her.
