  1. Great fish Garret. She must have put up a great fight.
  2. Super excited that the Battle is finally here! Good luck to everyone. Hope you all get giant followers... I'm fishing a smallie tourney on the weekend which isn't great but hoping to get on some good water on Wednesday. Already chosen my starting lineup. Wake Jr, Hippo and home poured boot tail. I was also hoping to throw my new "Headbut" but not sure if it qualifies as a swimbait. It's a hybrid Jig with a giant swimbait head. Here's a picture next to the Wake Jr. Please let me know if anyone thinks it doesn't fit into the Swimbait remit.
  3. Just a few days to go. Best of luck to the organisers and anglers.
  4. Congrats,! Good luck for the Final battle
  5. Do we have confirmation of the Final Battle dates yet? I'm presuming 24th to 31st October but that's tomorrow! I need to sharpen the stick I'm going to be pointing and shaking at the might of the USA Nuclear Fishing Arsenal. I'd hoping to bring the SUB Title to South Africa to our sit with the 2017 Black Bass Work Championship gold medals my colleagues recently won
  6. Nice Jesse! Better get into gear for the Battle!
  7. Well you're on the leader board. Not sure for how long but good stuff! I suspect you'll need to find more than an extra ounce to stay there
  8. Well done Michael! Good luck for the battle.
  9. If you are using a light wood I doubt you'll need to add weight. But if you do its easy to add in afterwards.
  10. I was fishing off a friend's boat a few months back. I'm a kickboaters so and don't fish on a motorised boat often. The trolling motor broke so we had to manoeuvre with the 90hp in windy conditions. I had just cast a 6" wakebait out to a likely looking bunch of rocks when the wind changed and we had to move. I clicked my real into neutral and put the rod down to grab something to eat. Next thing I know is line is flying off my real. I grab the rod, engage the real and set the hook hard. Needless to say it was the motor chomping my line not a beast chomping my swimbait. I snapped off and had to spend the next 10 minutes cutting 100m of line from the boats prop. No sign of my swimbait either.
  11. Thanks for the positive comments guys. The Hippo has held up well to some extensive fising so I'm happy to sell some. Fire me a PM if you're interested. I'm pretty confident in doing these 3 pattern: Bass, Bluegill and Carp. Will get more as I get better with the airbrush.

Lekker Fish Werner! Welcome to SU! Man I have to get to KZN sometime soon.
  13. My wife and I popped down to our local honey hole for an hour. The fish were just loving the Hippo and for once I out fished her. They weren't smashing it but rather just nipping. Luckily quite a few stuck though and I got into double figures within an hour. It was a strange bite and some fish would would come from almost underneath it - not that I was complaining. Nothing big. In fact some real dinks but it was great to be out and get bitten. Here are a couple of pics. I also uploaded some pics of my latest effort with the airbrush in grassroots: http://swimbaitunderground.com/forums/index.php?/topic/43257-the-hippopotamus/
  14. I've been working on my painting. Mostly concentrating on a Bluegill pattern. It has a bit of orange under the belly that you can't really see. I'm trying to stay away from the massive orange chest, very blue gills and with hard stripes. Next up is a Bass pattern I have a swimvideo on instagram but cant seem to upload it property here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZEbQVXjFI7/?hl=en&taken-by=crossmanlures
  15. Nice fish Trevor! Awesome to do it in a comp. That's funny!
  16. Got some great footage of a huge female being courted by 2 dinks. Difficult to tell but she must be at least 6lb and isn't even full bellied yet. She's in a relatively small pond. It's like some super model living in a 1 Horse Town having to choose between 2 skinny total losers. Man I was tempted to drop my new swimbait in there... https://youtu.be/v_BIAePO8_w
  17. Great video Stephen. Thanks for sharing.
  18. Any action is good action! Looks like she tried hard to spit it out!
  19. Way to go Tony! Next up the DD!!!!!!
  20. Way to go Anthony!!! Awesome fish! One of my fishing goals is to break my PB during a tourney. Best wishes for you new nephew as well. Thankfully you didn't live stream his weighing.
  21. What a honey hole!!!! If I were u I'd blur the background on those photos and keep this place top secret. Well done on the PBs Christian.
  22. Nice work Justin. For a wooden wake I generally wouldn't add any weight. Paint and epoxy can easily add over 5g to a lure and will definitely effect bouyancy. Check out this clip on how a piece of lead so small you can hardly see it changes a "heavy floater" into a slow sink. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKli2K9Df20/ When making a new lure I always add the weight after I finished the epoxy. I tape lead to various spots until I'm happy with the bouyancy and movement. Then drill, fill and touch-up. Also be aware that the weight distribution effects movement as well. For example moving 3g of weight from the front to the back section in my new Hippo wake increased the wobble significantly.
  23. Being on the Land of Litigation I hope you have sufficient and adequately displayed warning that the object is not to be used as a ....
  24. Added scales and remoulded. Hippo 2.0. Paint job #2 is a bit better but still quite messy and the fin is horrible. Hitting the water tomorrow to get some bass opinions
  25. Great looking lure and paint job looks professional
