3 piece wake is pretty nice. Swims at an absolute crawl. Hoping to catch a few on it today. I'll get a swim video posted eventually.

AMEN @bassbass. A few years ago I spent alot of money on a hype bait and I got it and said "this is it? I spent hundreds for just another bait?" I don't get caught up in hype baits anymore because I've realized it's just another bait. That's what leads to this question, why don't people just spend 100 on a similar bait that isn't a hype bait and catch the same fish? I don't understand why people will spend so much more for hype when they can spend a fraction on practically the same thing.

Aspen and oven bake clay

I've been working on this bait lately. My lakes are full of carp and can't help but think the bass eat them. Adding eyes, cleaning it up then molding.

What do you guys think makes a bait become a hype bait? Pizz, pats, ilude etc. Obviously not being able to get them, but how/why does a bait get to that point? Is it marketing, quality, fish catches etc, what do you think? Conversation starter here, this has been on my mind for awhile.

Yeah I've had issues with rustoleum as well. I'll get some spraymax 1k and give it a shot. I have some kbs spray but it has been terrible in my experience, maybe I need more coats or longer dry time. Thanks!

Anyone found a spray can clear coat that doesn't react with soft plastics? I know spraymax 2k would work but I'd prefer one that I can save easier.

Thanks! What do you mean my latter?

How do you guys make sure your weights are center in the belly of your resin baits? I've been struggling to get the weights center when molding them in

I try to keep it within an hour each way, but have made trips up to 3 hours each way.

Thanks! First I've painted from this project but I've made plenty of baits previous to this.

This is a bait I've been working on for awhile. Last season I started loving wake and crank style baits and knew it was something I could make myself so I went at it. Months later I finally have a finished bait. It's a resin bait. I am still in the testing stages. I want to experiment with different lips, weight distribution, line tie location, and joint swing. The bait swims well as is, but it's not the action I was hoping for yet. Thanks @azfisherspecifically for helping me with a few questions I had. Thanks everyone else for an active forum! I've been making baits for years but I'm still constantly learning on here.

Buy cheap baits if you are losing them

Man I love these topics. My tough but achievable goal is to catch a 6+ largemouth in WI on a swimbait. My dream goal/life goal is to catch a DD largemouth in WI. As of now I don't know of a single lake that I believe has the potential. I know of a handful of lakes that most definitely have state record smallmouth in it but honestly I don't care about those lmao.

My most productive bait last season was a Baitanity Antidote. I found the XXS was perfect for a specific bite I was on and caught a bunch of fish on them. The year before was a 7" black slammer.

Whats wood has a good balance between softness and holding detail? Trying to do a bait with scales and maple is just to hard to work with for me.

I don't think you can. Unless you can get the seller to send you a screenshot of their conversation with him

I walked in up to my waist for a 250 once. Water was like 45 degrees

Look great! Personally I'd try for a smaller shad dot

I've has some success putting my mold in a microwave to heat it up. What resin are you using? Someone might have experience with it

In my experience they don't help. I don't think I fish pressured enough lakes for something like that to make a difference.

Nice work!
