I am just starting to fish big baits and want to buy a couple of huds. I don't have many trout where I fish in North Texas. What size and color bait should i get?

I am Just starting to fish swimbaits/Glidebaits and don't have a setup that works the way i need it too. I am thinking about about buying a rod and reel for about $250.I will need the combo to be able to throw baits like Huddlestons,Deps,S-Wavers etc. What is a good rod/reel to use for these types of baits?
