Thanks for the info.  I’m bringing a Megabass WE 711XH so basically a 1-5oz rod.  Was planning TKs and lighter hard baits.  Outside of live shiners which I’m not above throwing, any baits you’d suggest?

My 2 most successful baits have been the rapala balsa Xtreme minnow jerk bait and any paddle tail swimbait in the 3-5" range like Big EZs or Keitchs on jig heads.

Check out Monster Mike fishing on YouTube or IG for tons of videos and bait ideas. He fishes these areas daily.

  2. I was just there this weekend and the fishing was pretty good. Definitely starting to pick up with the hotter temps.

The peacock bass and largemouth are sticking to the shade in the shallows right now. Look for shade from the trees where pipes cross under roadways. They were stacked up heavy in these areas. We were averaging 5-7 fish per spot and there's usually one crossing like this every street for any given canal system.

Just about every canal has entrance to it from the road side. From there you can walk along the public easement along the water. Just pull up Google maps and pick a starting point and get to work.

Since you only have limited time I would highly recommend grabbing a couple dozen shiners from a local shop to up your chances at fish. We were only able to catch a couple largemouth on the Gambler big EZ but the peacock wouldn't even chase artificial. Good luck!

  3. For big species like pike definitely the 2022 Zillion TW HD! More line capacity, smoother and casts further. I have the previous and latest Bantams and the Zillion, no comparison.

Is the XH a good rod for things like a battle shad and baits where the hook is in the bait. Also do you recommend braid, mono or fluro to be used with this rod?

Yes it's perfect for jig hook baits like the Hudd and big beast hooks too. It's too powerful for braid IMO. I use fluorocarbon on mine.

How the hell did you get Shimano power grip knobs on to a Daiwa handle? I have never seen this mod before.

Is the shimano power grip knob swap a pretty common mod in the reel modding game? Is it a 'direct fitment' without using any extra tools or parts?

Reason for the confusion is, last time I checked, daiwa and shimano use different lengths and widths on the handle knob shafts no? Therefore, you shouldn't be able to put a shimano knob on to a Daiwa handle right?

I don't like the stock handle knobs on my Tatula 150 and was thinking about replacing the whole handle assembly. On the other hand, after seeing this photo, I think I would just rather switch the knobs out for some Shimano power grip knobs instead. I would much prefer the shimano power grip knobs over the stock tatula 150 knobs.

    Sent you a PM. . . ..
