  1. On a side note, I fish braid to leader, therefore I like a rod that is pretty soft and moderate. What's the action like? Is the action soft enough and slow enough for braid? Lots of dudes say the rod is definitely made for fishing treble hook baits so I am assuming its going to be pretty soft and moderate. Since braid has no stretch, I am hoping the rod is soft enough to absorb head shakes. Since braid is very sensitive, I am hoping the rod is slow enough to 'deaden' the bite a little bit so I don't get trigger happy and pull the bait too soon on a hookset. I get very trigger happy and I haven't yet learned how to wait/be patient on my hooksets, therefore I need a little help from the rod.
  2. That's weird. Your sweet spot sounds different from what I have seen and heard from other people's review on the rod here on SU and other sites. A Deps 250 is right around 6oz. According to your sweet spot, it should do 'OK' with a Deps 250. On the other hand, I have heard some guys say the rod is underpowered/outgunned for a Deps 250 and they would never even think about swinging a Deps 250 on the Megabass Levante Leviathan. I was hoping the rod can handle the Deps 250 but I guess I will just have to find out for myself. A DRT Tiny Klash is right around 2oz. According to your sweet spot, the rod might feel a little overpowered/overkill for the DRT Tiny Klash. On the other hand, I have heard a lot of guys say the rod can cast and fish the Tiny Klash exceptionally well and can cast and fish glide baits around the 2oz mark really well. With all that said, I understand that lure weights are very subjective and most people will be using different kinds of reels, lines and baits on the rod. Therefore, everyone's experience is going to be a little different and everyone's opinion on what the rod can handle is going to be slightly different. Looks like I will just have to bite the bullet and get one in my hands so I can experience one for myself and make my own conclusions. I am hoping I can snag a used one on SU or maybe Ebay. Do you know how long the handle is from the back of the reel seat to the end of the butt cap/foam?
  3. I am thinking about getting a Megabass Levante Leviathan as a dedicated 2-5oz glide bait rod. Some questions... How long is the handle from the back of the reel seat to the end of the foam butt cap/end? Are the guides considered small, average or big for a rod of its size and intended purpose? I prefer guides on the smaller side for glide bait fishing. Smaller guides lessen line slap on the retrieve. Less line slap makes each handle turn feel a lot more responsive. Does the rod feel balanced, light and ergonomic when paired with the right reel weight and size? I am planning on pairing the rod with a Daiwa Tatula 300. Do you think it will feel tip heavy or just right? I actually prefer my rods to be a little tip heavy for fishing glide baits. Having the rod be a little tip heavy actually helps with 'Rod English' when working glide baits and helps put slack in the line in order to make the bait glide from side to side. I am actually hoping that a Daiwa Tatula 300 will be small enough and light enough, so that it will make the rod feel a little tip heavy. What's the sweet spot as far as lure weights are concerned? Does the rod bend enough on the back cast with baits on the lighter end of its weight range? Can it handle casting and working a 1oz bait or would the rod feel too overpowered/overkill?
  4. Looking to sell or trade an Irod Kaimana Coastal 794c Poe's Mag Stick. _ Specs SWC-794c _ 7'9" _ Heavy _ Fast _ 15-25lb _ 1/2 -2oz _ Used in excellent condition. Mechanics _ 10/10 Cosmetics _ 10/10 No saltwater use. Only used a couple times in freshwater to test weight range and action with different baits. Lure weight range is deceiving. Can handle 4.5-5oz baits no problem. Cesar Chavez from Toxic actually approves this rod and recommends it for fishing the K9. Very versatile rod action. Fast and has enough backbone for single/jig hook soft baits. But, tip is soft and the blank bends deep, therefore can be used for treble hook baits also. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _ Trades Shimano Curado 201XG K _ 8.5:1 _ Left Hand Any condition as long as its in working condition Will add cash on top to make up for difference if higher value Shimano Curado 201XG M _ 8.5:1 _ Left Hand Any condition as long as its in working condition Will add cash on top to make up for difference if higher value Baits Show me what you got, I might be interested. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _ Sell Asking $130 Shipped TYD. 9. 1-3oz glide baits are my bread and butter. I am currently using a Daiwa Tatula 150 on a Dobyns Fury 795sb for 1-3oz baits. Line capacaity is never an issue with me though because I run braid to leader. A 100 size reel holds plenty of line. You absolutely don't need a 150-200 size reel if your staying with 1.5oz baits and under. One thing to keep in mind though... Soft baits and glide baits require different gear ratios reels. Therefore, it will require 2 different setups. With soft baits, you are going to want a slower gear ratio reel with a rod that is fairly fast and stiff/powerful. With glide baits, you are going to want a faster gear ratio reel with a rod that is fairly slow/moderate and softer/less powerful. Hope these tips help.
  10. 80lb braid does sound pretty heavy/excessive for a 2oz bait. On the other hand, it is a 1 rod 1 reel setup for multispecies fishing, therefore I understand that your trying to cover all of your bases, so you gotta 'make do' with what you got. I am currently using 30lb Yozuri Super Braid to a 10-20lb fluorocarbon leader for fishing 1-3oz swimbaits. The fluorocarbon leader line size depends on the size and weight of the bait and how deep I want to fish the bait. The leader length depends on the depth that I want to fish. I have never fished a TK before. I am planning on picking up my first TK pretty soon. Does 30lb braid to a 15-20lb fluorocarbon leader sound like a pretty good setup for fishing a TK? I always downsize my hooks on all of my hardbaits for better action. Would you happen to know the size of the treble hooks that come stock on the TK? Thanks for all the info and help.
  11. How the hell did you get Shimano power grip knobs on to a Daiwa handle? I have never seen this mod before. Is the shimano power grip knob swap a pretty common mod in the reel modding game? Is it a 'direct fitment' without using any extra tools or parts? Reason for the confusion is, last time I checked, daiwa and shimano use different lengths and widths on the handle knob shafts no? Therefore, you shouldn't be able to put a shimano knob on to a Daiwa handle right? I don't like the stock handle knobs on my Tatula 150 and was thinking about replacing the whole handle assembly. On the other hand, after seeing this photo, I think I would just rather switch the knobs out for some Shimano power grip knobs instead. I would much prefer the shimano power grip knobs over the stock tatula 150 knobs.
  12. What's the gear ratio and inches per turn on the 13 fishing A3? Also, do you know how long the handle is in millimeters?
  13. What brand and LB test braided line are you using? No leader? Straight braid huh? I'm a braid to leader guy for all of my swimbait fishing, so when I see other guys on here posting fish pics with braid, I get very technical and geeky.
  14. I'm not trying to hijack the thread from OP, but...Do you guys prefer straight braid, braid to leader or straight heavy mono for fishing rats? I know a lot of dudes who swear by straight heavy mono. On the other hand, I know some dudes like straight braid since a rat is technically a topwater and since braid floats, it is sometimes recommended/used for fishing topwaters. Also, the braid makes 'walking' the rat a lot easier and less tiring/fatiguing.
