This some times happen when you put to much line on your spool or you did not spool the line correctly. Did you try adjusting the Variable break system inside the reel?

I have both the Japanese trout and emerald trout. I'm pretty sure you purchased the emarald trout. Good deal at $125 -

I would definitely stick to River 2 sea s-wavers and hudds. Those are proven fish catching lures! Its easy to get stuck in this swimbait game that you need expensive lures to catch big fish. NOT True!

That's way too much money! Not sure in what type of container you shipped the rod. I shipped the dobyns 867 in a PVC pipe that measured a little over 9" feet for 20 bucks with UPS. -
If you don't find a local buyer I would be interested in getting a better look a the rod before committing. Shipping for a rod that size should be about $20 with UPS 515-451-7555 Thanks

You could also get the houndog retriever at TW. The Frabill is good for retrieving baits that are shallow. Your best bet is to get a knocker with chains for swimbaits. The musky retriever is a good one!
