  1. Can anyone point me in the direction of an off the shelf travel rod? Somewhere in the 2-6 or 1-4oz rating. Been searching around even looking up muskie travel rods. I dont want to have a custom made, as it will see little use.
    thanks in advance!

  2. How many of my fellow swimbait guys are throwing 250s and other 10” baits in the northeast. How successful would u say you are with them?

this time of year i throw my 250 a bit, never even had a follow on it, but i feel like it can get a giant if conditions are right.

just curious to hear some stories of success or failure from other fisherman in an area where we dont have any dd bass.

    thanks

    tight lines!

cast out, let it sit, give it a couple good twitches, let it sit for a minute or so, then start my standard slow retrieve. I usually throw a twitch/reel pop in there as well.

ill pause it and twitch it around structure, rocks, laydowns, etc., working it out of structure or over grass.

I've also had good luck slow retrieving and then cranking it fast a few turns, then a pause.

my favorite is cranking it thru pads/weeds, as long as you can get it land in open water they come thru weeds pretty good

thanks man. yes they come through pads and weeds well! im going to try letting it sit for a min.  though i do get smashed once in a while a turn or two into just starting the retrieve, but rare.

    thanks man!!

  5. So i basically have some size slammer with me every trip out fishing! It flat out gets bit for me in all sizes! I find 99% of my bites are on a slow steady retrieve.

been trying to throw some more twitches and pauses in as of recent.

curious to see what kind of different retrieves work for you guys.

    thanks

  6. so planning on doing some fishing next month for landlocked stripers. I have caught my share of these fish in the salt but never in the fresh.  just curious as what style of baits you guys who do throw Swimbaits for these fish prefer to use.

im figuring the 250, 10' Nates hard trout, just ordered a 12" slammer. assuming hudds would work as well

I do live in the north east so those are pretty much my largest Swimbaits. majority of my baits are 6-8"

    thanks in advance

Are you using mono, flourocarbon or copoly.

All of my swimbait reels are Calcutta Conquests 6.2 :1 so pretty slow - I lost a few giants on glides in NC because I couldn’t take the slack up fast enough.

i May try a faster reel for my glides.

floor, I have conquest on my 2 softball rods. love em.  been throwing glides on a the for a couple years now which is slower I believe 5:1 so guess I'm just used to that

I tend to work most glides pretty fast and erratic more than not. While not always a steady retrieve by any means, I like a faster reel that can pick up slack fast when needed. I also like that I can simply get a lot of action out of glides with very short reel bumps rather than wearing my shoulder out working the rod hard. Some baits that do well on a fast retrieve are HPH’s, UFO’s, Bullshads and Rattle in jokers off the top of my head. Granted I don’t always fish them fast. But there are times that’s just what the bass want and the above baits can excel on fast retrieves. Plus it’s easy to slow down when I need to.

Most of the time im throwing a deps 175 or swaver but i recently got a 86 doomrider. I usually work them w like a medium retrieve.  Guess i will try fast and more erratic.

  9. So i bought a scorpion 300 for my standard glide bait rod. It replaced my calcutta te i had on my fury 806. My least expensive swimbait rod but i love it! Anyhow im not sure how i feel about it yet. I love the reel, just not sure its best suited for that bait style. It keeps the bait very close to the surface unless u really let it sink. Going to still leave it on that set up for a few more trips before i start switching combos around. Just think i prefer the slower retreive.

what style of swimbaits do you guys like 7+ retreive speeds for? I know its a matter of opinion but id like to hear some different ones.
    thanks
