Thanks Chris! And yeah I think the Goonie is definitely slept on. I like it because it is relatively quiet and is fairly subtle as a wake. I'm going to try to fish it again tomorrow morning before class. Hopefully I can report back with more catches lol.

The season has been a blast so far. The Goonie fish were back to back which was awesome, waking it super SLOWWW. I have broken my Maine Largemouth PB 3 times this season. Starting with a 4.63 on the TK, then a 4.81 and 4.98 on the Goonie Gill. The MDC eat was insane, I had like 3 feet of line out and the fish nosed up on it and just barely sipped the back hook. I didn't realize the fish even bit it until it started thrashing and hooked itself lol. Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well and is having a good season. Thanks for reading!

Swimbaits for Taimen and Yellowcreek Carp?
ThatKidInNY replied to Meatyogre's topic in The Underground
Sounds like the opportunity of a Lifetime! Mongolia is like #3 on my bucket list lol. I know of a guy in Japan that has caught Japanese Taimen on a DRT TinyKlash. shota_jenkins_konno is his Instagram username. He also has a YouTube channel called JENKINS CHANNEL where he has all sorts of videos of big trout on swimbaits. Pike Street Market is his brand as well. If you message him he might take a few days to get back to you, but he's very helpful and a solid dude. Seeing that Mongolian Taimen are bigger than their Japanese counterparts, I would imagine that they would wack the crap out of a TK or even a K9. Good Luck and please share pics lol! -
Great fish, that new glide looks super clean. Congrats on a nice start to the season.

2Faced Baits makes a really cool Duck, it has a very unique gliding wake action. There's a C2C on his Instagram I think.

Congratulations on an amazing fish! Cool to see it come on an Ambassadeur. I don't see too many guys using them.

Over the past year or so I had been wanting to try targeting big trout with swimbaits. Unfortunately I’m in the frozen tundra for school most of the time and only get opportunities to fish for trout on winter break. It took 4 trips but was well worth it. This fish came on my third cast of the day. I stopped to check my drag 1/4 of the way into the retrieve, looked up, and saw the fish flash on the bait. I knew it was possible but to be honest I was not expecting to catch a Brown. I figured it would be a Laker bite. I didn’t get any measurements on this fish, as we were too amped up to remember. JENKINS CHANNEL on YouTube was a large inspiration that motivated me to try to do this in the states. He makes great quality trout fishing videos out of Japan. Anywho, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Summer would probably the most productive time to throw bird related baits. Most birds breed between May and early august. So I would think mid-June to mid-August would be the best time because young birds would be fledging (leaving the nest) and more likely to end up in the water. I've also seen bass blow up on Red-winged Blackbirds as they are walking across the lily pads. Another thing to keep in mind is that at least in the Great Lakes, migrating birds can get tired out from a lack of fat storage (energy) and end up in the water (I've seen a couple videos of this) and I don't think a smallmouth would pass up on that opportunity lol. There's a website called Birdcast that uses the same equipment meteorologists use to track large movements of birds. So maybe it would be fun to test out throwing a crawler some night when the birds are really moving. Here's a link to the site: Live bird migration maps - BirdCast Migration is slowing down atm for smaller birds but should pick back up in April.
