I decided to take the paddle board out for the first time in a couple years. Brought the wakewalker and shadlittle on a 6 mile float and managed to find some good ones. They were eating it on top in the morning which is always fun. As the sun came up they went a little deeper. I was catching them cranking down 1-2 feet over 10-15ft grass patches. I’ve never had much confidence in wakes or crankdowns (I mostly throw glides) but the wakewalker has definitely changed that

I was able to put in some time the last couple weeks and caught a few good ones and countless others with most of the fish coming on the shadlittle. I’ve been fishing this river for almost 10 years now but I learn something new every time I go out. I focused on learning how they react to the different water levels and it paid off.

A few gills I picked up for the spring time

My main goals for this year are beating my pb largemouth (6-13), weighing a 5 lb smallie (pretty sure I’ve caught one but didn’t have a scale) and catching a 4 lb spotted bay bass

I throw anything under 3 oz on 16 lb sniper but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what any of us say. If throwing everything on 20 is what you need to have the confidence to get your baits closer to structure, then that’s gonna get you more bites than downsizing to 15-17 will. Fish what youre comfortable with and go from there
