  1. Parallel casts and try to find harder bottom surfaces like gravel bottoms, clay, etc. Slower moving baits have worked for me but down sized caught a 5lb 10oz on a 1/4oz spinner bait and 6lb 2oz on a buzz bait with a plastic blade to slow it down. This was all in mid 40s water temp in Missouri. Also ppl don't talk about it much but anywhere that water flows into a lake can bring warm water especially after a rain. We have a small pond that flows into a lake and every time there's a warm rain the flowing water brings in a lot of bait fish and you can have a really good day. Just another way to catch some big girls even when it isn't the spawn
  2. Got it but what I'm asking for is why ppl use the rod they do for line thru. What is important to them. I'm looking for more than the generic answer. The beginner noob stuff is helpful but it isn't what I'm asking about altho my question might be worded poorly. Fishing a bait properly creates bites and one of the most overlooked aspect is a good rod paired to the bait and it will be different for everyone.
  3. I have an extra rod that's 7ft heavy and was looking for a lure to use with it

    PB on swimbait

5.5 PB swimbait fish. Caught it on swinging swim jig with rage swimmer as a trailer. First year throwing swimbaits caught 3 over 5lbs not bad for Missouri
  5. Yeah I had watched a clip with rick clunn and he mentioned top water early spring can be good so I tried and did very well of course you’ll want to do it late in the day when the water has warmed up the most. Only had success when the water was on a warming trend. I tried this fall on the way down so to speak and didn't have much luck. I think swim baits could be even better bc of their ability to pause. Jitter bugs need fairly calm water and altho the whopper plopper can be paused I don't like it much. I plan on waking deps 145 might get a floater later but I'm thinking the SS can trigger them on the pause thinking it is injured.
  6. I love a buzz bait best is early spring with a plastic blade to go slow caught one 6.2 in 45F water this year
  7. Do you ever wake a glide around the same cover?
  8. Okay I’ll look it up great tips SU!
  9. I’ve learned that with spinner baits but my wallet is going to hurt lol I think that’s probably my problem right now
  10. TW had a sale on jenko but they aren't line thru so I was looking at getting inserts. I fish spill ways from bank it is an overflow from a small pond to a bigger lake. When there's a good rain they stack in the flowing water looking at line thru bc they hit so aggressive that most of the time they don't take the lure well hoping that a line thru would help. Huds are so big they have a harder time staying on the bottom looking for something more dense . I'd be doing more of a stinger style since id like to have the hook on top this has a lot of rock and I've lost a lot of prerigged jig style like the dark sleeper. Jig heads get pinched in the rocks so any suggestions on what to try would be great! Going to try glides as well the bigger ones sit below the water flow so I'd like to try to get down on the bottom and stay there
  11. I’m planning on using a 7ft heavy for 5” it is a spare rod I don’t think it is ideal but should get the job done. Do you add weight to the baits? Not super familiar with them
