I’ve had one day where I smashed them on my UFO wake, literally couldn’t keep them off it on a trip to NH last summer. Burning it, slow swimming it, casting it up real shallow and crawling it. They loved it. Other than that though I haven’t had too many amazing days on it, but to be fair, few baits work constantly!

I second the Beast Coast Creep65. Great bait for crawling on the bottom for a big bite! I personally rig it on a weighted 8/0 Beast, love to spread some scent onto it too. I have a friend who loves magdrafts but all of the ones I buy seem to be not that great. They seem to not fish balanced and seem to have a lot of issues, never had one that really swam perfectly like some people I know have. The brownie color kills in tannic lakes though! Wish more companies made that color. I do love the action on the battleshad, I’ve gotta get one, and I just got some citizens I still need to try!These are both on that Creep65. They make great colors but I love the Perch!

Yeah, first 3 guides are double foot, the rest are single. Never had much of an issue with mine though, even after some car ceiling hits while putting them in the trunk haha The Zillion is good too! I currently have mine set up with a Curado 150i. Rod pairs very well with 95mm Gomexus handles too!

I have one! Its not a bad rod, I use 150-200 size reels on it, usually a Bantam MGL which is a great pairing with it. You can put like a 200 size round reel on it since the handle is long enough! (I put like a 300 size on it for a while and it was alright too, a little overkill though.) I usually use it with like small glides and small wakes like shellcrackers, S-wavers, Ganterels, and in terms of higher end stuff, I usually throw anything smaller than a psycho gill. Really any treble hook baits. I did first buy it to throw softbaits (I was stupid and didn’t realize it was very moderate) but it was definitely not up to par for 6.5+ inch softbaits with beast hooks. Caught 2 fish on Beast hook baits with it but only because they hit at the bank and not at the end of a cast. In terms of the actual rod, its well built, light and balanced and fun to fish with. Definitely for lighter baits though. Deps 175 at the Max, a 145 is a good size for the rod. I do throw some crankdown gills on it though! Mini sherpa would be great on it. Also, pretty perfect for TKs. 6” UFOs I recommend the rod for smaller treble hook stuff but if you want to throw heavier things, it may not be up to snuff. Its a moderate action for sure. Here’s some pictures of the rod and fish I’ve caught on it. Definitely a good rod but I just find myself reaching for my slightly heavier wakebait rod. Don’t use it as much as I should. Actually use it a fair bit for conventional too. Chatterbaits, deep cranks. Etc, almost like a glass rod for conventional stuff. In terms of a pro con list: Pros: light, sensitive, balanced, quality build. Casts well and works well with trebles. Good for conventional if needed too. Cons: Not great for soft baits, find myself reaching for other heavier rods. If you want any more pictures with other reels on it, or have any other questions, let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

Maybe you’d want to trade one of your perch ones to see if mine is just fine or if I’m crazy Its interesting to see the lip is the same shape though. I feel like the angle may be different but some of yours look similar. I definitely can’t get my bait down below 2 feet though, especially not on a standard retrieve. On a moderate-fast retrieve it’ll maybe get a foot, maybe a foot and a half

Gotcha, maybe I’m just not fishing it the way it was intended, and maybe I need to break it in more. This is the lip angle as you can see, its definitely a bit different.

Hey SU, I recently did a high end trade for a Pats Phat. Now that the water is warm, I’ve started throwing it a bit, but I have to say I’m underwhelmed, but it may just be the individual bait, or maybe its just been hyped to hell. My issue is that the bait doesn’t really seem to swim well/consistently, it doesn’t wake very well but it has too steep of a lip to really crank at a normal speed, and the classic Pats clack is kind of nonexistent. I’ve seen videos of pats before and they all look a lot better than the one I’m throwing. I’d say mine has much less of a crank (didn’t even know he made baits with this lip), has much less action over all than most pats I feel like I’ve seen. Maybe it wasn’t built up to Pats standards, maybe it was a custom request, maybe it isn’t tuned right, I’m not sure. Anyone have any thoughts? Can post a video later if needed. Just want to be sure that I got a good bait from the trade/can make it better. Maybe I’m just being picky too, and the bait swims like a normal pats and I’m just wrong on how they normally are! Who knows. Just want some opinions!

Thats why I came here, because it doesn’t make any sense! Maybe it could be through hardware spots, but I epoxied over those holes anyway, and used superglue originally to attach the hardware anyway. Plus, it’d be crazy for it to change that much in sink rate from a tiny spot like that! Definitely not impossible but definitely would surprise me! Been wanting to try super glue for sealing the wood too but man I hate spreading the glue with my fingers! Definitely going to try that on my next bait I think. Seems like the minwax hardener only has these weird tall cans. Do you just dump some out and dunk it?

This could be the case, but I’d be surprised that it would change it that much. The bait originally floated pretty well so it was surprising to see it sinking!

Gotcha. I’d been using a brush to paint on the polyurethane, so maybe thats my problem. Too bad I only bought a small can!

Hey builders! Finished up my wood glide a bunch of a weeks back and used oil based polyurethane (2 coatings) and took the bait out to try and land my first one on it, and it starts to sink after a few casts (it was tuned to be a float, and was floating when I first started in the day). Got mad and decided I would fix it once and for all, and gave the whole bait a thick epoxy coating on top of the polyurethane. Seemed like it was working, then the next day it started sinking all over again. Any idea why this may be happening? I just can’t get the damn bait to not take on water!

Been thinking of checking out Buyee for fishing gear and some other stuff as well. How expensive is the shipping though? If I were to buy something that was like $14, would the shipping be like $50? Haha, and any baits I see are all auctions and are way more than usual. Maybe I’m not looking in the right spots!

This is an old thread but I’ll add as well, by no means am I a K9 expert, but I’ve started to get the bait down (and ran into an issue) In regards to this, I definitely had this issue and still do every once in a while. Only sometimes though, using a swivel to connect to the spit ring rather than tying to the welded ring may have helped it for me but not sure. In terms of the bait itself, I had a good few days in Florida with it to boost my confidence, and I usually fish it in glide mode but recently bought a Vtail to deadwalk it, until I realized my bait is taking on water and sinks. Still fiddling with it to fix the issue because I want to fish it! Used to have a TK, couldn’t figure it out, and have a KO and its still not great but maybe I’m not used to it!

Yo SU! I fish a lot of somewhat shallow waters and need a glide that I can let sit for a bit without sinking too far or floating to the surface. I know a DRT will suspend with the right tune but does anyone make a good suspending glide? Thanks! In the 6-8 inch range!

I have had a few Gomexus handles, never fished with a Hawgtech or Varials, but I do eventually want a Varial setup. Overall, I do really like the gomexus for the price. I’ve had some 95mm ones and just this week received a 120mm one as well. I gotta say I do like the gomexus knob color choices a lot. So much more and are a lot more readily available compared to DRT. For example, I want Grey round or fat knobs for my setup, but with DRT, they’re so rare that just the TPE knobs would be more than an entire Gomexus handle. One downfall of the Gomexus is that I find the smaller handles are too thin, maybe they’ve changed it but there is a lot of flex in the 95mm and below for me. Not unfishable and definitely good for the price, but there is flex for sure. My 120s are much much more stable though. I don’t really like some of the Hawgtech options too, as I feel the knobs are too small and I really dislike straight handles over a swept design, just feels awkward. Overall I just say go with Gomexus unless you have money and want a smaller handle size, because the small standard ones are just a bit flimsy (at least back when I bought them). They have a lot of options and are usually readily available compared to the competitors!

Had some people talk to me about it, specifically @Jim137a who gave me some good advice, but still can’t seem to figure out a solution Got the k9 last fall new from Bl8nkt, threw it a bit but nothing too much. Just shore banging, you know the deal. Not abusing the bait. Fished it down in florida where I caught some bass, and then started using it up here in Rhode Island, but realized I had an issue. The bait sinks, relatively quickly too- see attached video. Jim showed me that I could use a flashlight to investigate it, and I found there was water inside the head region, and only there. Have that shown below as well. Now my issue is, the bait has water- can’t find the source of it, and can’t seem to get the water out either. Tried letting it sit in some water and couldn’t see any source bubbles or anything. Sucks though since I need a suspending bait and it sinks. Any tips, tricks, fixes?
