I've tried two clear coats so far, the first was a thin coat of cheap two part epoxy, and the second was some old KBS diamond(one coat). With both I had the same problem, starting around the hook rash areas the clear coat would peel taking the paint underneath with it. I didn't do much surface prep before painting, just sanded the bait(sealed with liquid super glue), and then wiped it with a little acetone, then the clear coats went directly onto the paint. Looking back the KBS coat was not done well, I only did one coat, and the can had been sitting for over a year, I've order a new pint.
