Caught some big smallies on some 4 and 5 inch beast hook style softs. Hookup ratio was less than great. I’ve had them strike some giant treble baits and I want to fish some similar sized softs (8”+ paddle tails) but I know they are hardly ever gonna get that 10/0 beast hook. Should I Butch Brown them? Stinger a treble near the back? Trying to think about whether a smallie strikes the head of a big bait or the tail… Any experience?

Thanks for the reply’s guys. Sounds like I just need to grab some of the clips suggested and go back and forth with each bait till I get what I like out of the baits. (some of them I make so I can’t fish them stock lmao) So nobody ever fool with the non-slip loop knot? It seemed like it could add a lil something with a glide.

What is your guys favorite way to tie on glides/wakes/crankdowns/etc etc. and why? Wondering about opinions on the differences in action.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just vary my retrieves until I stick one then. I like the idea of being able to call up those roaming smallies hopefully I can get some action on the lake I’ve only ever had luck in rivers.

Word I got you. kinda wondering about best conditions to get bit i guess. wakes kind of thing guys have success with in the dead of night?

I just got a regular throwback wakewalker and want to throw it for smallmouth on my reservoir. Any wisdom for someone new to wakes?
