Steep bank tips for a noob

Casting one thing, landing another. You won’t get much distance on an incline like that, and it can be dangerous. Make sure your location affords a way out quick if you happen to slip in. People drown that way. If you’re standing over deep water, don’t do that. Too risky, it’s just a stupid fish. All fun and games until your life is on the line.

I tend to fish along a steep rip rap bank, and one piece of equipment I suggest is a net.
Not only will it save you the heartache of loosing a trophy fish when it happens, but from a safety standpoint, it makes it easier to land a fish. It eases my worry about loosing my footing /  balance and falling in, trying to grab one by hand..
I also use the shaft and butt end , almost like a walking stick when navigating the rocks for balance.

From a fish standpoint, when you do catch one you want to document, you can keep it in the water till you compose yourself to do so.

I use a composite shaft collapsible type net. Easy to transport.
