Mattyboy45
Does anyone have any suggestions for a reel in this price range, I use 20 lb mono now. Would like it to hold a decent amount of line, and be able to hold to heavy swimbait.
surferdave
Find a Lexa 300 on eBay for about $150 is your best bet.
Mattyboy45
Are the higher gear ratio, or the lower gear ratio style reels better?
NorCalBass
Are the higher gear ratio, or the lower gear ratio style reels better? probably lower, and the shimano cardiff is a good bet too.

G3bassin
Gear ratio's to me depend on what baits you fish. I like slow gear reels for my plastics like a 5.1 and for my jointed baits I like a 6.2 but if your only getting one reel it is easier atleast for me to speed up not slow down. Both the cardiff and lexa are great choices.
Bassman88
+1 on the Cardiff and Lexa. I use Cardiff for my hudds and Lexa for everything else.
Top Ramen
Lexa 300 or Cardiff 300.
idbass
Just like most people have said, Lexa if you prefer low pro reels, Cardiff if you prefer round reels.
fishaholic211
Cardif is a good buy.
colbypearson
Lexa 300 or Cardiff 300. Yea.
Jace D
Another vote for Cardiff. I've got 3 that are all over 3 years old and have been used very hard and besides replacing the level wind pawls ($3 part) on them they are in perfect working order. And the 400 holds LOTS of line. basstastic27
Just like most people have said, Lexa if you prefer low pro reels, Cardiff if you prefer round reels. Can you put 20lb mono on Cardiff
mikeeasttn
Get a ABU Ambassedeur 5500C4 or a 6600C4. They are also easy to have tuned and are bullet proof. I started out with the more expensive Shimano round reels but now the Ambassedeurs are what I use. dheath2
