Line speeds?

Please help clear something up this beginner - people talk about gear ratios but I notice that line speed (IPT) is different between same ratio 200 and 300 size reels and even between different brands.

what IPT do you prefer for different baits, ie: big glides, HUDs, TK, multi-joint, etc?

Wow not one reply. As a beginner trying to refine my technique I find reel speed has a definite impact on how I am able to work the bait.

So is IPT not a thing?

Well can anyone tell me what reel model, size and ratio you prefer for different baits?

the ipt of a 7:3:1 200 size reel will be slightly less than a 7:3:1 300 size reel at the spool diameter the 300 size will likely be slightly larger.

think about it like vinyl records, like if you play 45 at the same speed as 33.

You and many others dig way to deep into stuff that really will not make a sh&t of difference.

There is no need to worry about this.

Figure out what size baits you will be using then match the reel size to that. 200, 300, or 400 size. You can do a lot with a 6.2 speed reel.

You as the controller should be able to learn what and how to reel for different bait actions.

It seems everyone listens to what is said on the internet by people that may or may not use swimbaits or may have used them once, yes maybe get the basic information then go learn what works for you, what baits you like to use, and what your fish like to eat. Someone throwing a glide in CA using a 6.2 reel catching fish may not work for someone in NH and so on.

I think everyone that wants to get into the swimbait game should need to fish regular tackle for 5 years minimum.

Forget about all the BS about having line, reels, rods, shirts, shoes, pants, handles, sunglasses, hair ties, panties that match and are only good when throwing one hype bait.

Yes some of these people will catch a fish and it maybe big, but ever blind squirrel will fit a nut, but will not be consistent throughout.

Get a basic setup 300 6.2 reel and a 8 foot 2 to 8oz rod, give are take. You should be able to use this setup for many diffent actions and baits.

Just my 2 cents.

Print this, frame it, and hang it in your fishing room. It's excellent advice.  :)
