Wow not one reply. As a beginner trying to refine my technique I find reel speed has a definite impact on how I am able to work the bait. So is IPT not a thing? Well can anyone tell me what reel model, size and ratio you prefer for different baits?

Please help clear something up this beginner - people talk about gear ratios but I notice that line speed (IPT) is different between same ratio 200 and 300 size reels and even between different brands. what IPT do you prefer for different baits, ie: big glides, HUDs, TK, multi-joint, etc?

Are you talking about the Tackle Warehouse collab Guide Select Custom or the original Okuma? I currently have a Fury 806, MB Levante, and a 13 Omen Black H. These all seem like hard bait rods with the 806 being the softest and the Omen the hardest. Do you think any of the Guide Select would be a better hard bait rod in this weight class than what I already have?

I’m using a 200 Tranx 7:1 for 6” magdrafts, TK, 168 S Wavers, etc on my junk rod. That’s a 13 Defy H cranking rod with the top 5” broke off and I replaced the tiptop. I kept this for kayak fishing because of the short handle but I’m surprised how good this works off my boat for skipping and twitching those baits above. the reel works great but it’s getting a little geary. I suppose after 2yrs I should open it up clean and lube it?..
