spooky007
I know if I was a bait maker there's no way in hell I'd be fishing live bait world record or not!! Can't take away from his record catch but I'd be more impressed if it was caught on a dropshot set-up!! Just my oppinion!!
BASS
I may be wrong, but I tihkn bass are an invasive species at lake biwa and you are forced to kill what you catch? I don't know if I am right about this though

nobody
I also think it would be more impressive if the fish was caught on an artificial lure. But it wasn’t. I have read main stream articles regarding the catch as well as heard the rumors. Regardless the tied record stands. What I don’t think is fair is labeling him a poser because he fishes live bait. The fact that he fishes live bait does not, in my opinion, make him less of a bait maker or a less skilled fisherman. To my knowledge he never claimed to be a big bait/swimbait specialist. He claimed to guide and trophy hunt using whatever means necessary to catch fish. If I sell hand pour worms (I don’t’) but also fish swimbaits, crankbaits or whatever else does that make me a poser in the hand pour industry? This is just my opinion. Arden Hanline Jr.
Well, I have been informed that a few people think "nobody" is me; which I think is hillarious. Anyway, I bed fish! Bed fishing and swimbait fishing are two totally different things. Catching a bed fish on a swimbait is bed fishing; NOT SWIMBAITING!!!!!!!!!! Some think it's right, some think it's wrong; I can understand both sides of it. When I do bed fish, I target big ones. I have seen and fished for WAY more than I've caught. Catching males and catching BIG females are two completely different things. I truly believe that when most people say bed fishing is easy; they truly haven't caught any big females. Yes, they CAN be easy; but usually not. They can take time, knowing how to position the boat, not catching the male, using bigger baits, being able to read the fish; etc. People that consistently catch BIG bed fish know what they're doing. It is a skill just like anything else. But I say again, swimbaiting and bed fishing are TWO totally different things. Is a bed fisherman a trophy hunter? Maybe! Is a swimbait fisherman that throws small hollow bellies a lot a trophy hunter because he's technically fishing a swimbait:)? Of course not! If the bed fisherman is passing up fish and only fishing for DDs; he's a trophy hunter IMO. I could take or leave bed fishing. I do it because I like it and I like to watch how the fish react. If there was a law passed today that says anglers can no longer bed fish; I'd be fine with that. How does a big bed fish compare to a big fish caught casting; that depends on who you ask. While I do love bed fishing, I would have to say I'm more impressed with a big fish that was caught casting. But then again, it took one cast to catch that fish; while a big bed fish may take hours. I guess it just depends how you look at it. Live bait? I hate live bait! Wait a second, let me say that another way. I HATE LIVE BAIT! I wouldn't use live bait if I was guaranteed a 50+ pound limit; but that's me. I've used crawdads, shiners, etc in the past; but it was a long time ago. I can't stand the stuff. But that's my choice. If someone wants to use live bait, it's legal, and that's what THEY enjoy doing; more power to them. As for Manabu Kurita, I don't know. It's legal to use bluegills in Japan. He didn't do anything wrong. As I said above, I'm not a live bait guy; but it is what it is. He does have a 18+ on that Mother "swimbait" and supposedly catches big bass often. He said he tried the swimbait and other baits before going to the bluegill. Again, I wouldn't have done it; but that's his choice to do what he did. I also understand where you're coming from about catching the fish on the gill and then promoting the Mother. Hard to make money off of a World Record fish when it was caught on a live bluegill and gear Americans have a hard time getting. Arden Hanline Jr.
Couple weeks ago! I've been on a hunting kick lately. Do 5 pounders still count? Should I be taking pictures of those? Arden
Arden Hanline Jr.
Actually, most of the time I don't do a fish report and don't take pics. Waste of time. I do DVL reports when I go because I love the lake and don't get to go there often. I don't do many reports of my local lakes; even though I go every week.
