Mossyback Angler
Damn, and the one meal it thought it was gonna have, wasn’t a meal after all. Gotta feel bad for that one. bassfishing24/7

Warsaw
I caught a 7lber that looked like that recently. In a lake that every fish is super stout and healthy looking especially the big ones, she legit had the length of an 11-12lber. IMO when this happens they are at the end of their life and just emaciated or they have been eating people's discarded/lost plastic worms and they get a blockage in their digestive tract and can't absorb nutrients properly nor defecate and end up perishing. bassfishing24/7

I see a lot of fish like that in ponds where the forage isn't great in terms of numbers and quality and in ponds that regularly suffer fish kills. Of course being SoCal you probably don't have negative temps and you said there was good forage so I'd guess she's got some worms, plastic or parasitic.
