big swimbait dog
Stuck this calico on a trip a little while ago on a big hammer. Was my personal best and kicked my ass. After releasing her i went and stuck another one of the same size. The captain told me both those fish were trophy fish. I was beyond stocked. big swimbait dog
Ya it was a solid fish the second fish was bigger captain guessed them to be in the 8 to 9lb range. Didnt feel like killing the fish to get a good weight was worth it.

honestabe101
Very nice and RARE fish. I can only imagine the other dudes shaking their heads when you released those. Nice job....the big calicos are very old fish. Good to see catch and release of BIG fish is going on...was unheard of in the 80's.

big swimbait dog
That is what i was told and thats why i am happy i let it go. It was a big surprise when i pulled in the first because we were in a wide open yellowtail bite. I had the random catches for the trip with the first day a bluefin in a wide open yellowfin bite. Second day a bluefin and a yellowfin while catching yellowtail on a high spot. Third day had the bow to myself and was sight fishing dorado while everyone was attempting to catch deep bluefin. Got to love going light for all the species with 30lb test and 25lb test when everyone else is fishing 40lb or 50lb. Was a fun trip and a good boat.
