They look so lazy until they want something, and before you can blink they have your bait in their mouths. Lost a few frogs to gators....would cry if I had one hit anything near that expensive... Although having a gator blow up on a frog 15ft from the boat at night is about one of the most exciting/terrifying/pantscrapping things you can ever experience fishing. I fish this one spot you have to craw into, the weeds were all flattened out and I could smell something dead. I knew a gator had killed something and left it to rot and would be close by, but I could not find or see him, then all of a sudden I heard a deep SSSSSSSSSSSS! I proceeded to get my a$$ out of there. I am normally not afraid of these guys, but when there is food involved and I don't know where he is hiding.....it is time to go.
