evans_usmc69
I had just had a decent fish in the 5-7lb range wake me up with a jolt a few casts back.....and then this girl showed up. She hit in a tree and kept following after she missed, unlike the last fish. Instead of slowing it down for her to get an easy meal, I sped it up making her chase. It's 53 degree water and dropping fast, but this T-rex isn't going to settle for the goat chained up ready to eat, she wants to hunt. She got closer and closer gliding with the bait and still I'm thinking this fish is 5, 6... 7lbs max. Twitch, closer, twitch, even closer, twitch, closer, and one last twitch and pause......a half hearted smack and somehow I get her hooked on the back hook. Cool story bro, but this is usually where she jumps and game over.....but she stayed on and stayed down. I don't really remember if I said anything while she was hooked and fighting, but I'm sure I sounded like a deaf man trying to speak Mandarin if I did. Somehow though, the guy in the back understood me and was paying attention the entire time because he had the net and was at my side before I even remembered he was in the boat with me. One quick dip of the net and she's in there, high fives and time to celebrate. Then we both look in the net and we realize she's a lot fatter than 5, 6 or 7lbs but how fat? 9-8, 9-9, nine point six and two but not a 10. It was fun none the less. Can't thank Terry aka vikingbear8 enough for the net job because 99 times out of 100, that fish comes off if I'm solo, Butch for the tune and Pizz for the paint job. One step closer to 10, but 0.38lbs still feels like a metric ton.
