Shimano big bait reels

I've read somewhere that the level wind does disengage for longer casts. I'll let you know for sure when my 400 shows up by the end of this week! 8-)  Can't wait!

Thats a shame.  better performance when it stays engaged with heavy line and big baits.  One of my biggest complaints about the 400d

I agree with that, but it has been said that the casting distance will be further. We will have to wait and see.

Thanks for the pics igl00jx. I have been using 200 for around 9 months now for glides from Deps 175 to I-Slide 262t and its been great, but the lack of line capacity really annoying when I have to make longer casts with Hudds. I am still pondering whether I want a 300 or 400.

Debating which one to get as well. I'll most likely get both of them down the road, but only one for now.

@igl00jx you're the only person I can find online that has both-

What are your thoughts comparing the 2 reels?

Which one would you prefer/recommend if you could only have one?

haunted, haven't had a chance to fish either one yet. The reels palm similarly, albeit the 401 is slightly wider.

If I had to do it again, I'd opt for two 401s as the wider frame and spool seems to lessen any chances of the line getting coily and for the addtionaly line capacity.
