tjstrong3
Does anyone know the weight of the 9" Hinkle Shad? I have a Dobyns 795 SBMT and wondering if I will need more rod to toss the Hinkle Shad.
sickboytfc13
Mine weighs just about 6oz. As far as if your rod can handle it I'm not sure. Never used a Robyn's rod..
lunkerglx10
I've never thrown a hinkle shad, but I do have that rod, and it would be massively under-powered for a bait that's 6 oz. I don't throw anything that's much over 3 oz on the 795, and even that's pushing it. If you're looking to go the dobyns route, I think the 867 is more in line for throwing that size bait. Other guys on the site could chime in on specific rod choice for the hinkle shad way better than I can though.
SPEEDBEAD
I throw it on a Production H LDC without any issue. That bait doesn't feel nearly as heavy as a 250. Tbernz
Crazybassfisher
I don't think it weighs 6oz, it's pretty light since its resin, I think it's more 4.5-5oz but I haven't personally weighed mine to find out.
waynem
I'd agree that the Dobyns 795 is not well-suited to baits over 3 oz. You can go over that in a pinch, but it is not pretty- you end up lobbing rather than casting. Ben told me his LDC heavy is about a 7.5 on the Dobyns power scale and something in the 7 or 8 power range seems about right for a bait of that size. sickboytfc13
On a digital scale it weighs exactly 5.5oz. Mine does at least. That's with hooks and snap rings onstalled
tjstrong3
Thanks guys. I agree over 5oz is too much for the 795. I may look into the Dobyns 806 or
daminator
You better go with an 807 over the 806 I think . I've been using my 807 on the new 250 which is a bit heavier than the hinkle (a little over 6 ozs) but feels under powered for the 250.
