tybo jones
Had this old cork handle crucial that is an alright rod just the handle was too short. Killed my wrist using it for long periods of time. So sacrificed a spinning rod and cut off the butt section. Removed the cork in the front section and shaved down the blank to fit inside of the other. Filled the gap with epoxy and rolled some thread on for reinforcement. Finished it off with some accu cull grip savers. Came pretty slick. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s functionable. Pretty much a “new” rod for $20 Doomlurker, danthefisherman, Rld504 and 9 others
tybo jones
Ended up adding 7” to the butt section. Making total length around 19”.
Rogervang
That's a crazy idea. Crazy good haha I wonder how it would feel handling a big fish.
bassfiend72
Awesome! I did this awhile back. Yours looked great. I used a graphite shaft from a golf club. I inserted it in a few inches and then epoxied it. I ended up adding about 4 inches. It’s 13.5 now. Its an old school Falcon Lizard dragger 1 rod. It’s my perfect G2 rod. Rated up 3/8 to 1 ounce. Very parabolic with backbone near the handle. Mine isn’t very appealing to the eye. I love stuff like this. Made how you wanted it. Cool. Kyle1387
Weird question. Don't have any rod building ish, was gonna extend my frigging rod and my smaller swimbait rod. Would using like 50lb braid instead of rod threading work. Then just covering that w more epoxy?

Probably would work. I don’t see why not. I would use a smaller diameter braid if I were you and try to get a lot of wraps. I used thread because I had a fly thread holder. I just cut a slit in a box for a rod roller made things a lot easier. A little epoxy before on the blanks and coat the “threading” after. Chuck
You need a thread that stretches when wrapping.
Kyle1387
Ended up cutting the but of my 7'5 SLX hvy rod. Took a section. From an old spin rod to connect that to the butt of my old 13 xh swmbt rod. Made it almost a 8 ft rod. Just exposed the hell out of the middle piece, wrapped w 30 lb braid, more epoxy and then electrical tape. All the weight in the end actually perfectly balanced it around the reel. Thanks for the tips! Amistoad and tybo jones
tybo jones
Nice. Glad the tips worked. Funny to think I inspired someone. You added a lot more than I did. I would just worried about the flex point under load. Kyle1387

I would just worried about the flex point under load. It's far enough down where I'm not worried. Only pressure on it should be when casting. Plus the rod section inside should reinforce it more
479Swimbaiter
I wish I would have took pics of the process but I've done this as well. During Black Friday, I found a Bass Pro Pro Qualifier rod 7'11" 1-3 oz XH for $69. Only hangup was the handle was maybe 10 inches. Went the Lowes and got a 3 ft section of 3/4" ID PVC. Took a dremel and sanded down the hard foam on the handle to where it was about 1/16th inch thicker than the inside diameter of the pvc. Epoxy'd the inside of the PVC and then slid it onto the rod handle, it was a tight squeeze. Then wrapped the PVC in baseball bat grip tape. That was my first SB rod ever. Sick little glidebait rod.
