Swimbait Review: Cooper B8s Miner Glide

The Cooper B8s Miner Glide is one of the only true floating Glide baits on the market, offering a unique topwater presentation to give the fish a different look. The Miner Glide comes in at 9" and 2.8oz, featuring a 2 piece resin construction and stiff fiber tail.

On the moderate straight retrieve, the Miner Glide will get down just under the surface, with a smooth "slalom" style back and forth glide. The bait has a nice flash to it, as there is a bit of body roll on the transitions, but it maintains its stability well and doesn't lay on its side like some floating glides tend to do. A subtle but apparent bulging wake is present along the surface. The bait will accept more speed with the rod tip down at the water, but does not love a burn.

Slowing things down, the Miner Glide becomes more of a true topwater presentation, with the top of the bait breaking the surface. As well, the fiber tail cuts the surface, almost like a shark fin. The bait tends to stay a little more upright, with a more apparent back and forth head knock just below the surface. The subtle wake is again apparent, and will swim all the way down to a crawl.

The next presentation is easy reel bumps, causing the bait to Glide back and forth on the surface. The bait will glide about a foot in either direction, producing a more pronounced wake. Of note, the transitions on each corner causes the large fiber tail to push water, adding to the surface disturbance. You can pretty easily keep this bait up close to cover and just slow glide it back and forth.

Getting more aggressive, we inteoduce some harder reel chops. This actually gets the bait gliding a little further, and chops in quick succession will push the bait down about 6 inches or so. The slight body roll becomes apparent once more, also allowing for a smooth transition on the corners. If you wait between chops, you can also keep the bait on the surface, giving more of the topwater appearance.

Combining a faster reel chop retrieve along with some rod twitches will give you alot more of an aggressive subsurface presentation, with the bait shooting back and forth and really moving along. The bait will accept all input, and it will shoot out impressively wide if you time a hard rod twitch right after a couple of firm reel chops. Your imagination is your only limitation, as the bait seems to accept most inputs from the rod or reel.

I threw the Miner Glide on a Leviathan 7 ft 9 Heavy, paired with a Tranx 400 and 20 lb copoly. Probably a hair overkill, but that's my personal preference. You can certainly mix up your line choice to get slightly different results: if you wish to fish more subsurface try switching to fluro, or vice versa utilize mono or braid to help keep the bait up more.

Hope you enjoyed Today's Review, glad to give you another option on the more available and affordable side if that's what you're after. Have a great week! Hopefully getting back to Sunday Reviews, but I've been busy (yes, believe it or not I've found some time to fish!).

Also this glide could be weighed down by adding deferent size hooks. I just bought this glide and cant wait to try it out. would you tie directly to the bait?

I tie onto the bait as it comes stock. If the maker has added a ring I will use it, if not I will tie direct.
