Swimbait Review: Pizz Reg Carp Glide

Pizz Swimbaits new version Carp Glide is a refined version of old, featuring a departure from the door hinge joint in favor of the screw eye and pin connection. The baits overall appearance and profile is similar to the older styles, but generally sinks a bit slower. The Reg Carp Glide is a 2 pc Resin bait coming in at 8.5" and 4 oz, and utilizes a semi soft rubber/plastic tail, along with swiveling hook hangers.

The straight retrieve produces a very natural and fluid swim, with a firm side to side head hunt. The body stays nice and level, as the tail unfurls behind the head. There is minimal body roll, and the bait will stay at the depth at which you began your retrieve. There is also a good bit of flash associated with the bait as it turns. The transitions are fairly tight (not loopy) and the carp cuts side to side in a controlled manner. A pause will cause the bait to Glide out, but not at a huge distance.

The Carp also burns just fine, and you can really feel the head thumping along. This retrieve will definitely wear you out, but the swim stays very similar to the straight retrieve. You can also slow it way down to almost a crawl, and this will widen the swim a good bit.

Utilizing slow and long reel bumps (1/2 to full turns) will get the carp gliding fairly wide, but isn't a true wide wide glide. The Carp turns the corners relatively tightly for its size, bit quickly straightens out glides about about ft or foot and a half. There is a slight amount if roll on the transition, but it is not extremely noticeable. The key is to be slow and easy, if you hit it too hard or for too long, the bait will turn around and go the other direction. Once you get a feel for the wider glide, it is not difficult to control the bait.

You can also get quick and choppy with it, utilizing firm 1/2 turns to get the bait to stay in relatively one place as it turns hard back and forth. Because the bait has a slightly looser joint The, it cuts and turns back and forth super easy, it it stays in one place. The bait accepts this firm input well, and you can get as fast as you'd like, and it will hold its depth well.

Last, you can utilize rod twitches to get the turns even tighter and more choppy, along with increasing the cadence. I did find that the bait would roll on its axis a bit if I got ultra aggressive, but it did right itself quickly.

For the Reg Carp,, I went with a Leviathan XH paired with a Tranx 400. I have this setup spooled with 25 lb Copoly, but a 20- 25 fluro or mono would be fine as well, and could be utilized to dial in a certain depth. A lighter rod could also be utilized if that is your preference

Hope you enjoyed your Sunday! See ya next Sunday for another vid.
