got this nice fish the other day fishing from shore at a public lake. trout season just opened here on the 13th so lots of trout have been stocked and the water is filled with 4 pound test and worms galore haha. walked past 15 chairs and a few stringers of trout and found a nice overhanging tree to toss under. tied on the 8" slow sink savage gear line thru trout (rigged on top) and started skipping it under the tree. few casts later i felt her on the line as i came past some logs in the water. full of eggs and only went 3.2 but it felt great!4 points -
F5 MVT Series
bassfiend72 and 2 others reacted to Fallof74 for a topic
I recently picked up a couple of F5 MVT series rods. More specifically the MVT867H 8'6" 3-8oz Moderate Fast. Took one out yesterday and threw it around for a while..and wow. First of all cosmetically they are beautiful, black on black with some grey camo inlays in the eva grip. Threw around a Deps 250, a hiro glide, and a wake jr. Rod casts with ease, loads just perfectly to get the maximum casting length. Super lite so helped with fatigue. I've had LDC, MOAM, and most other custom and production rods. I would for sure put this rod on top for a production rod.3 points -

So figured I'd post the review here of @MA Frog Man reel service. Instagram is @reelcleanreels to see his work/contact him. Reel is a Shimano Calcutta 400B, that hadn't been serviced/opened in two seasons. fished it hard last season as my main reel, has been dunked/splashed/dropped/fished in salt for stripers, not babied. Reel needed a basic service and the side plate cover replaced due to me slipping on some wet rocks during a hookset and putting a nice dent in it. Told Adam to go thru it and replace anything else it needed or would need before the end of the season. We talked about some upgrades (bearings/drag/ceramic pawl) and based on our conversation we agreed that everything that was there was in perfect working order for at least another season and no need to spend extra $ on parts that didn't need to be replaced. He easily could have said you need x, y and z and charged me more $$ for the parts and service, but he didn't. While it was being cleaned he found it needed a new pinion gear and two springs, he ordered those and the new side plate, did the full service and replaced the parts. Reel is smoother than its ever been, looks and feels great. Cant say enough good things about the experience overall. He didn't try and sell me parts/upgrades I didn't need, was upfront about parts costs and lead time, stayed in touch thru the whole process, no hidden cost and delivered a basically brand new reel. Even saved and showed me the parts that he replaced and explained why they needed to be replaced in the first place. If you need reels serviced I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and think you'll be happy with the results. Thanks again man, and I'll see you on the water this season.3 points

Magnum Screw Eyes
danthefisherman and one other reacted to chefchris for a topic
I get mine at LPO, but theres a seller on ebay that has em too, much cheaper, I can send you the info if you want. He has open and closed and in a few lengths and has the .072 as well. Mega sized screw eyes, like on a slammer? If you're talking about those, theres a few options. I wanted to find the ones i wanted in person first before ordering without seeing them. West marine had some (any good marine supply shop should have em), if you have a grainger or mcmaster carr around you, they carry em too, if none of those are an option find a good machine/bolt shop and they should have em too, once you find what you like size and length wise you can easily find em online for a lot cheaper. Home depot even had some in stock, I have a few packs left I can let you know which size they are later. I was only able to find closed screw eyes of those sizes. So I used a flat head screwdriver and hammer, used a thinner one at first, placed it in on a piece of scrap wood, placed the screwdriver between the eye and shank, banged it in and pryed it open a little, then used a bigger thicker flathead and was able to pry it open enough to get the other screw eye inside.2 points -
What line for Slammers?
Willluvstafish and one other reacted to Bass the east for a topic
Sounds like you’ve got a great setup. 25 will work but I’d jump down to 20 or 17lb CXX for your next spool. That 25lb CXX is the diameter of like 30lb mono. It’s like boat rope2 points -

no jumps, guessing its because he was hooked in the tail. it made several runs across the entire pond though! He probably pulled out 50 yards of braid with locked drag 3-4 times. My adrenaline was through the roof, definitely the biggest fish i've ever caught!2 points -
Magnum Screw Eyes
Willluvstafish reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
I've been wondering if there's anywhere else you guys get your magnum 0.092 screws from besides Lure Parts Online. I normally get my standard 0.072 screws from Janns Netcraft, but they don't carry the magnum sizes. While I'm at it I might as well also ask where to get those mega-sized screws for those of you with experience in making rats or big wakes. I tried finding an appropriate sized stainless option but they all run about $5+ a pop which I think to be a bit excessive. Any help appreciated, thanks! Dan1 point -

yes the ones on ebay are the same as the LPO ones, guess the guy use to have a small bait company and build some muskie/pike lures and stopped for whatever reason, some of the ones Ive bought from him came in LPO bags. I'll send you the info for the guy.1 point -

Fast-balling a pats up into a tree and catching first swimbait fish of the year
zpoutdoors reacted to Archtx9 for a topic
stuck a slammer in a tree one night. Couldn't see it, all I knew is that it was beyond my reach. I cut the line and tied on a water bottle. This was in the lake frontage of a house. So, next morning before first light, I'm back out there we a telescoping tree trimming saw. Once I could see the bait, I took off the small branch about 12 feet up1 point -

Just got me a Tarpon 100, need a few more big baits, but I'm normally tossing regular stuff. My swimbaits consist of 5 6" Triple Trouts and a 7" Slammer on the way. My one gripe is my Irod Jr has a long handle that jabs my PFD and makes hooksets tough.1 point
