  10. I'm gonna lead off with the fact that I haven't been swimbaiting for "years". But I have been fishing for most my life. The conquests should work absolutely fine. Hell I even use 150 size reels for some of my setups. The size of the reel allows for larger line capacity, which you need for running thicker line, as it takes up more space. But if your not casting a country mile at a time, 300 size reels aren't completely necessary, unless your trying to catch something that can pull you across a lake. Also, the gear ratio is something people overlook. Most guys bumping bottom with softies prefer a lower gear ratio like the Calcuttas have. When you start chopping glide baits, that's when a higher gear ratio is preferred. Not mandatory, you could do both on either, but it is a bit easier sticking to those principles for your cadence sake. Hope this helps man!

    New PB!!!

After catching my first two swimbait fish earlier this week, I was lucky enough to break my personal best today! I'm in law school right now, so I don't get to fish as much as I'd like- I probably fish more than I should already. That being said, spring break is upon us! My buddy and I have been hitting our local lakes and ponds hard this week with water temps steadily rising. Last year I had caught my previous PB, a 6lb 13oz fish on a wacky worm that came out of this pond in April, and I knew there was some serious swimbait potential here. The bank holding the concrete pad splits in the center with a dock going out about 30 yards. I had blown the side we came in on by walking down on the pad, and knew if there was a fish on the other side, I'd have to be a little sneakier. I positioned myself high up on the bank above the pad, made a few casts under the dock, and slowly inched my way forward. With the angle I was at, I only had about 10 feet of fishability before I had to swing my bait up the bank to avoid dragging it on the concrete. As I made my way forward, I pitched my TK on the other side of a branch sticking out of the water, where the depth was probably around 2-3 feet. I had been burning the Tiny Klash all morning with little success, so I slowed it down. Twitch, twitch, twitch, pause... and BOOM. She came out of nowhere and sideswiped my bait HARD. The whole event happened in about a second, but watching it felt like minutes. I set the hook in disbelief and yelled at my buddy to get his ass over here. I should NOT have landed that fish, that's for sure, but somehow, I did. My hookset was late, and she shook her head hard. Finally got her to the bank with one treble pinned in the corner of her jaw. This fish beat my last PB at 7lbs 3oz. SO close to 8, I'm almost mad about it. Almost.

  18. So, the way I understand it, Yuki Ito, the founder of Megabass, brought Megabass to the U.S. by challenging tackle shop owners to a fishing duel. It just seems like such an amazing story, and I think it'd be really cool to tell it in an anime. There's a surprising lack of fishing themed animes, there are definitely some that involve fishing, but only one that I know of that is centered around fishing. (Tsuritama and it's fantastic). Anyone else think this would be a cool idea? I have no clue about any way to bring it about in any form whatsoever, but I still think it'd be really cool to see. Lemme know what yall think?

  22. Rough weather in northern IL today but I've been on this 3-day weather pattern the last couple weeks (fishing the 3rd day of warm day/warmish night trend) and today is the target day. I decided to send this Gantarel KO (it's a super-slow sink, not a floater) and got lucky with my new PB! Went 20.75" and 5.77lbs. Water's less than 2ft visibility, off-and-on drizzle with 10-20mph NNE winds. I was using a moderate retrieve with pauses every three handle turns or so (reel, reel, reel, pause...let it glide off to the side and stall a couple seconds, then reel, reel...) She hit it right when I started reeling after a pause. She didn't TANK it, but it was a good double-tap. Thanks for reading! God is great!!!

    K9 musky and tiger

I wouldn´t really consider myself much of a swimbait angler minus some summer time bass chasing. I´m more of a musky guy who incorporates the big swims in my musky game. Don´t get me wrong I do occasionally like to toss the bigs for bass though.

    Glides on the bottom?

The bigroid 210 has a top hook option that works great, but it's a snag prone technique and I only have a hadful of 210s left. Something I've had good success in lakes with soft bottoms is a Duel ninja glider rigged with Ryugi double hooks point side up so you can touch bottom without grabbing weed and fish a glide a foot or so off the bottom.

    Rod advice

dobyns also makes a 3pc line, the Kaden series. if you can find a similar taper to the champ 806/807 that would be my recommendation. megabass is overrated imo. I only own 2, and I've had issues with QC. if you can find one for cheap that's great, but they are overpriced especially if you buy from a US dealer. Most japanese rods (made in Japan or not) can be found on websites, like JDM TACKLE HEAVEN, DIJITAKA, ect for 50-100 dollars cheaper.

  41. If I could only choose one for the scenario you described, I would pick the Dobyns. I have mine paired with a Curado 200HGK and absolutely love it for 1-3oz…not to mention it doubles as my a-rig, frog, punch, and heavy jigging rod. It can throw 4oz, although I would probably step up a reel size. Loads well and feels great in hand. I used to not like the “short” handle but it really lends itself well to kayak fishing and really is plenty long for leveraging the small-mid size baits. Limited lifetime warranty which is great. The SLX is a good rod too, it just doesn’t have that same refined or sensitive feel as the Fury. It’s biggest benefit is being able to handle heavier baits (which is the only reason I pick it up instead of the Fury), but this is sacrificing castability on the lighter end of the spectrum. I’ve fished down to 1oz baits and they cast ok with a good reel, but I was losing a ton of fish until I switched to all mono for the added stretch (from braid to leader). The rod definitely feels “bigger” in hand even though it’s supposed to be an inch shorter. The long handle and action of the blank really allows you to load up the rod and launch heavier baits which minimizes fatigue. Price-wise the SLX is cheaper but you only get warranty coverage for one year.

    A tail of two Tricks

Well, I managed to stick two decent fish this week. On Monday, I stuck a 4lb12oz fish on my new Bucca Trick Gill. Today, I stuck a 5lb3oz fish on my new Bucca Trick Shad. I would say these two are going to be real winners for me in the future! I can only imagine how they’ll perform for me from my kayak . Cheers!

  45. God lined up the stars again for me! Had another great 4 day trip and got my 7th DD at 10lb 4oz. Also had a 9lb 12oz, 8lb 8oz, 8lb 4oz and an 8lb even! The warming water along with the full moon had the big ones chewin'! Had a missed opportunity at what looked to be a teener come in hot and not commit to biting and made my heart stop! I'll be back to try for her again... Day 1 - nothing over 5lb Day 2 - 9lb 12oz Day 3 - 10lb 4oz, 8lb 4oz, 8lb Day 4 - 8lb 8oz
