  1. Found a few threads with info on this from a while back, but wanted to see if anybody had any more info! I'm looking to tune my new style 250- overall it swims great most of the time and is super slow sink, but, i've had 4 eats in the last week and haven't been able to hook up with a single one. The bait is completely stock. I've got a couple of questions. I know Butch uses the gamakatsu bronze round bends- is this generally the accepted hook for the 250? I'm also considering Owner st-46 and possibly quads. On a faster and sometimes slow-constant retrieve this bait will either nosedive or nose up, what tuning can I do to fix this? I don't really want to add more weight because the sink rate is almost perfect for me now. I'm also open to sending it to someone to tune- idk if Butch still tunes baits or not- don't wanna just ask him out of the blue, I know he's probably a busy dude. I really love this bait and it's given me a lot of confidence in throwing 10 inch class baits, but I want it close to perfect as I can get it. Thanks y'all! -appstlhd
  2. I've got one! Haven't fished it a ton- really only fished it one day. Got one blowup in some really shitty conditions for wakebaits. It's super loud, which I consider a good thing, kinda like how you want a buzzbait to squeak and rattle- it does the same. With rod tip snaps you can almost deadwalk it on the surface which I thought was cool. Straight retrieve is also money. Overall I'd say it's a great bait at a great price point, plus the box smells good.
  3. Today has been the best day of fishing for my buddy and me in a while! I got a new Tatula 300 delivered today (thanks Digitaka!) and just had to go test it out! I started out with the Chad Shad, and after about 10 minutes of casting, I had a follower nip at it right when I was taking it out of the water! I've seen videos of guys in Japan figure eighting their swimbaits on followers and getting bites, but I had never tried it myself... until today!! Two figure eights later, and the bass in the second pic tried to hammer it! Barely hooked the SOB, but I flipped it onto the bank ASAP! I looked at my buddy across the corner of the lake and just laughed for about 5 minutes after releasing that fish. I never thought bass would eat on the figure eight, as I've only known musky to do that! The second fish also came on the chad shad, and I got to test the drag on the new Tatula! She came in at 5 pounds, 8 ounces! Hell of a fight on the new reel, and it felt great. I was worried that the 8.1 gear ratio on the Tatula would be too high, but turns out it's perfect for most of the baits I throw! Tight lines y'all! -appstlhd
  4. I’m using a Dobyns 806 with a shimano Cardiff 300. I’m switching that reel to a tatula 300 though. I use 20lb cox or 20lb FC Sniper
  5. Went out fishing with my parents for Easter today, and managed to get a Chain pickerel on the Megabass I-slide 187R! I got this glide last fall but hadn’t fished it much at all. Saw that pickerel try to eat it and I jerked it out of his mouth; I threw it back in the same spot and he tried to choke it! Not very big but still cool to catch!
  6. Can you still buy baits from Austin? I was under the impression the Dream Catchers shop got sold, could be wrong tho! That’s definitely a sick color. I’ll be moving back to Boone this summer after being in Raleigh for 2 years- hopefully I can get out on some Western NC lakes! Definitely have clearer water than Jordan or Shearon-Harris
  7. The weather here in North Cackalacky is starting to heat up! Last week bass were up shallow munchin on whatever they could find, but the last few days of chillier weather have turned eaters into followers! I ordered a Klash 9 from Japan on Saturday, and it was on my doorstep this afternoon, so I just had to take it out for a spin! It took me a few minutes to figure out the cadence to the bait after throwing a Deps 250 for the last week. (I missed a freaking HAWG on it last Friday- heart=broken) Anyways! I was throwing the K9 on an oxbow wall in the creek that feeds the pond my buddy and I fish- and all of a sudden the bait gets t-boned! I was kind of in shock after throwing it all afternoon with just followers and forgot to set the hook- whoops! I was so excited to finally get one of these baits and am definitely looking forward to throwing it until I stick one! Hopefully it'll be soon! What do y'all think about the color? I know the opaque baits are great for those clear Japanese lakes, but how should it fare here on the east coast? Tight lines y'all! -appstlhd
  8. I'll definitely have to check it out! Thanks Geoff! If you bend any ears at Megabass with this anime idea- keep us all in the loop! lol
  9. Looking for any input from anyone who has fished the JSJ Trigger Trout. They're on sale at Tackle Warehouse for stupid cheap right now and didn't know if anyone threw them with success. Thanks yall -appstlhd
  10. So, the way I understand it, Yuki Ito, the founder of Megabass, brought Megabass to the U.S. by challenging tackle shop owners to a fishing duel. It just seems like such an amazing story, and I think it'd be really cool to tell it in an anime. There's a surprising lack of fishing themed animes, there are definitely some that involve fishing, but only one that I know of that is centered around fishing. (Tsuritama and it's fantastic). Anyone else think this would be a cool idea? I have no clue about any way to bring it about in any form whatsoever, but I still think it'd be really cool to see. Lemme know what yall think?
  11. Check out the St. Croix BassX XH Swimbait Rod- I think it's 710 as well. I've thrown everything from a 6 inch magdraft to Deps 175 on it- fantastic rod. Medium parabolic but also has some stiffness for hooksets on soft baits. Handles 2-5 oz, but can definitely huck under 2- I'd be cautious with anything over 4 on it though. If you want, I'd be willing to sell it to you. PM me if you want it. I haven't fished it a ton. I just use my Dobyns 806 more and don't have a need for it.

    New PB!!!

After catching my first two swimbait fish earlier this week, I was lucky enough to break my personal best today! I'm in law school right now, so I don't get to fish as much as I'd like- I probably fish more than I should already. That being said, spring break is upon us! My buddy and I have been hitting our local lakes and ponds hard this week with water temps steadily rising. Last year I had caught my previous PB, a 6lb 13oz fish on a wacky worm that came out of this pond in April, and I knew there was some serious swimbait potential here. The bank holding the concrete pad splits in the center with a dock going out about 30 yards. I had blown the side we came in on by walking down on the pad, and knew if there was a fish on the other side, I'd have to be a little sneakier. I positioned myself high up on the bank above the pad, made a few casts under the dock, and slowly inched my way forward. With the angle I was at, I only had about 10 feet of fishability before I had to swing my bait up the bank to avoid dragging it on the concrete. As I made my way forward, I pitched my TK on the other side of a branch sticking out of the water, where the depth was probably around 2-3 feet. I had been burning the Tiny Klash all morning with little success, so I slowed it down. Twitch, twitch, twitch, pause... and BOOM. She came out of nowhere and sideswiped my bait HARD. The whole event happened in about a second, but watching it felt like minutes. I set the hook in disbelief and yelled at my buddy to get his ass over here. I should NOT have landed that fish, that's for sure, but somehow, I did. My hookset was late, and she shook her head hard. Finally got her to the bank with one treble pinned in the corner of her jaw. This fish beat my last PB at 7lbs 3oz. SO close to 8, I'm almost mad about it. Almost.
