  1. Still have it all/adding to it. Nothing like frog bites, or throwing a dd22, throwing jigs, or dragging worms to mix it up
  2. I fish by myself 90% of the time so with friends Ill get more of a kick out of normal fishing with them
  3. When you are stitching or are in a lake where the big girls are more acustommed to swimbaits than big worms would be my guess
  4. I purchased a pair in early 2010 off the waiting list (floater/sinker). Construction/Quality: You know what to expect from 316 no exception with the herring. Retrieves: The bait was very fluid in the water and could be burned or creeped. When burned all of the joints moved, where on the creep only the back joints really moved. The herring is easier to "machine gun"? on top of the water, not sure how useful that is but when your bored it was kinda fun to do. When ripped it doesnt do a true 180 and instead flashes at a 90 degree turn showing the profile of the bait. When reeling in at a medium speed if you stop then the bait will pause to one side and give a little half turn. Durability: The paint on the slow sink was as durable as other 316's, had the typical hook rash/ teeth mark rings around it with some scratches on the top of the head from teeth. I casted one up on a pipe on some delta riprap(accidentally) and automatically said theres no way it survived(Ive broken my share of 316's). Much to my surprise it came back fine minus some discoloration on the joint, so I was very impressed that it held up. Catchability: I fished the floater for about 4 months and the sinker for maybe 8? Apart from a 13" bass on the floater I never got a bite or follower on it at a time when I was cracking topwater/wakebait fish, so I sold it because it clearly did not produce what I was looking for. The sinker I fished a little longer, not really throwing it for a while. I caught a couple bed fish off it around 4lbs(ya i bedfished with it) and threw it during the postspawn to spots and largemouth. I never could get a spot to follow this bait which was disappointing. The largemouth I caught on this were all less than 4.5lbs, most came on a slow roll, one doing a directional change. Slowly this bait worked its way out of my box and I sold it this fall after not throwing it for more half a year.
  5. Or you could fish a big worm, instead of getting cute to say you were fishing a "swimbait"
  6. Sometimes it more fun to get normal fish, 4lb spots, I wouldve thrown the jerkbait
  7. Split ring doesnt really matter I catch them good with it and good without it. Just make sure your hook isnt curved inward (owner cutting point) or you will miss/skin hook bites
  8. It still gets bit sideways, but slowing it down will help. I just use the treble with the split ring, when it gets a channel mend it, but after a while the channel will be too bad to keep a hook in. I grabbed a small plastic worm in the same color as the son, cut it to size and glued it as a filler so the hook will stay in fine
  9. Im trying it on smaller swimbaits with a curado 300 so maybe that will be better. Ya I fish triple fish, honestly never considered the whole line diameter aspect untill you posted . Havnt run into any problems
  10. I spooled up some 20lb sunline this past week to try out on hudds, I use the lighter lines for my finesse rods and love it. First thing i noticed was the line was incredibly thin, I dont know the exact diameter, but much thinner than the 25lb triple fish I use. The problem was that it tended to fly off the spool way to fast, even after adjusting the cast control on my calcutta. I was dissapointed after it kinked up so bad I had to cut it off. It was as durable as mono and I liked the diameter on it.
  11. This cracks me up. That will happen to me in 1 out of 2 trips to the lake. Not just one lake either, happened 5 different places this year and the majority of the problem was the trout boaters. If I was up shallow they would troll over the point where i could cast a worm and hit the driver. If I was off the spot they would go between me and the bank. Stuff like guiding their troll in the direction of my "trout" splashing just makes me laugh now, Ill just come back to the spot later.
  12. Thats my boy! Get Um. 4 in a row

  16. 17ft bayliner, 85hp force, 70lb maxxum
  17. Im a billed bait kinda guy no doubt about that. OG wake, now theres a fun one to fish
  18. Are 316's worth it?? Some of them yes, others i dont think so and thats my opinion. My first dd came on the wake jr, and it has caught countless fish for me, its a must have wakebait. The born again is one of my favorites as well, has a lot of pulling power and is a lot of fun to fish. The rising son is a very good softbait that produces good numbers of fish and covers the middle column very well and cant be beat for the price. These three baits are worth it, but I wouldnt pay over retail for them. (I have a spare of each, just incase i break one). The freestyle craze is ridiculous IMO. Yes it is a quality made bait from 316 theres no doubt, but I havnt seen the proof that it is worth the hype. With the amount of them being sold the number of big fish being posted is not convincing me the bait is worth it. A couple of 4's is not impressive, I can do that on spinning rods and have a lot more fun honestly (Ive owned a handful, did not work for me not my style). When your gonna buy a bait dont buy one because everyone else has there panties in a wad trying to get them. Especially starting out the tendency is to buy to many baits and not have time to learn them properly. When you get comfortable with throwing big baits thats when branching out new baits will pay off. Mickey's baits are high quality, their customer service is outstanding, and its always a kick talking with the guy. But dont just get a 316 to just say you are part of the hype.
  19. Put in a full today for my first skunk of 2012
  20. 2009 I ended my year with a 6lb spot, 2011 I started with a 6lb spot and ended with a 5lb spot. Have yet to fish this year
  21. Swimbaits work everywhere EXCEPT Cali. Too much pressure I fish 4lb test nowadays
  22. When I was just learning how to bass fish I was shore fishing from a lake I had never done very well at. I caught a 3lber in the dead of winter on a wildeye swimbait and I had never caught a bass in winter. The next spring I was in the same area and watched a boater stick a dd on a hudd right in front of me. I bought a swimbait stick the next year, 2007 after I spent a week up at clear lake, the week after the famous elites tournament. I was catching basstrix fish the whole week from shore until they sold out everywhere. The next month I caught my first real sb fish on a SS bbz where I saw that guy with a hudd catch that huge fish. I tried to commit to them from my pontoon but always got distracted learning other baits. Once I got a boat it took a year just to learn positioning and new baits. Since then I have been hitting the big baits as hard as I can and have stopped "settling". I see guys that are way better sticks than me with fish way into the teens, and every time I do it just motivates me. I know after every trip I'm just that much closer to those fish -chris
  23. I use procure rainbow trout super gel on soft baits only. It will come off in about 20 minutes, on hardbaits it lasts more than one trip and always gets the bait box all gross. I havnt noticed much difference, just something to do
