++1 For me the Wake JR/slammer is what I check first to see if they will come up around the shallow weeds and such. I used the weedless 68 a few times this year and was amazed how well it fished through the weedy areas. I just lost a few really goods ones on it though... The smaller rising son is #1 if you don't have much weeds to deal with. Top hook version on rocks is a bite I look forward too late summer and fall... It all depends on what your lake is like, you need to put a better description or you will get no real useful info. The fish are where they are day or night. Unless they move real shallow at night where the wake bait can really excel. Every lake is different and the bite changes with the moon too. Just go out and fish a bait your familiar with in an area your familiar with.

Cut a tail off and make a mold with plaster of paris and melt some worms in the microwave. Endless supply of new tails.... He would rather sell you a new bait then a tail.

Who say's its outdated and how are they rigging it different? A bass doesn't know what's current and cool. Get a hook somewhere between the line tie and the dorsal fin using wire, heavy braid, or split rings and a swivel. Have a soft bait glue on hand to fix tears along with a few extra pre rigged baits.

I use braid a lot and love it. One of the few... If your fishing in deep weeds or snaggy rocks there are advantages. If your mindlessly casting and retrieving baits in the top half of the water column like most people then there is no advantage really. what ever you do use 65 minimum. I have been using 80# PP and 30# leader this year with no break offs on big soft baits

Small rising son bottom hook in cht shad or white based on your water color and parallel those trees and any weed lines or clumps like you would with a spinnerbait. Hands down the easiest bait to get used to swimbaits with and it gets bit when the fish are shallow.

I think the park lakes all have "no fishing" signs. At least at the lake I drove by in Seaside...

If it gives you more confidence, then use it. Confidence is the key. I have fished an area, not been bit. Waited a few minutes, sprayed bang on a bait, next cast get slammed. Coincidence? maybe. When you get to fish as much as Don does you can start to build your own truths. But we all know the fish in NorCal are so easy they will bite anything.
