You can do sa lot to the rate of fall by changing the hooks. Split ring, no split ring, etc. Any metal is going to add extra weight to the bait and make it sink differently. I have had some really deadly RSs that have only a #1 ST-36, which makes for like an ROF 1 or 2 bait.

Keep throwing hudds man, they'll get bit eventually. Change up your approach until you stick one. Get creative with it, work it up and down points and drop-offs, etc. Reel it fast, slow, on the bottom, up top, etc. I went last weekend for the first time in like 2 years and stuck a few on an 8" hudd against a rocky shoreline.

There is just something about an 8" hudd that makes you wanna throw it over any other bait haha. Although the possum is a close second! Quoted for truth. I would often find myself throwing a Hudd just for that thump. It keeps you coming back for more.

I love my 12" Slammer. Caught a bunch of fish on it. But I agree, anything bigger would probably not be an ideal bait. The 12" feels about maxed out. Love my big slammer.

It's awesome living that close to the water isn't it? I've got 2 ponds like that. Fun to take a break from bassin and get drunk in the summer and do some catfishing at night. Lazy easy drunk fishing haha. Damn, that's like half of my high school memories. Drunk catfishing is the best.

All about where you live, 44 can shut down fish in warmer parts of the country. Uhh... best follow up bait for a hudd? Probably a hudd..
