  1. If you want a custom rod and have the patience to wait you might try talking to Ben at Low Down Custom Rods. I have a set of travel swimbait rods he made that rival some of my regular swimbait rods.
  2. Very cool Joel. That Rod Bone BVC764XXXXH is a beast. I had no idea there were 4 piece travel rods rated that high. Would you mind sharing a few other travel rods that are popular in Singapore? These look great for pond hopping across the globe.
  3. With double treble baits, the above suggestions are all good. Not sure if you rod has a hook keeper, but you might consider adding one if it doesn’t. Hooking your bait on a guide or the reel itself is asking for rash. Here are a two hook keepers I have used with success. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Fuji_Ez_Keeper/descpage-FUJIEZK.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Cal_Coast_Fishing_Cali_Clip_Hook_Keeper/descpage-CALICP.html
  4. For super cold temps, I use the NRS Hydroskin 1.0 (thinner than the 2.0). I cut slits on the thumb, index and middle finger so I can poke the tips out to tie knots. The NRS Hydroskin 2.0 added the slits but also put grabby velcro tabs to hold the tips folded back when finger tips are exposed (totally unnecessary IMHO). These gloves are thin enough so you can close your palm without much effort. Also looking at the handwarmer sleeves the NFL Quarterbacks wear for quick breaks.
  5. Not my pics so can’t vouch for validity.
  6. The Spro BBZ 6inch is a good one to try and it won’t break the bank.
  7. One more thing about SoCal vs. NE Tex swimbaiting. If your used to fishing around the trout stocking commonly found in OC and LA lakes, that is not typical in most lakes here in Texas. Some of my best trout baits are not getting in the rotation much as a result. Finding bluegill baits to be more productive so you may want to consider that when stocking up if you pull the trigger. Again someone may be killing it on trout baits, but I lost a bit of confidence in them.
  8. Moved here from L.A. 2 years ago. Living in the Plano/Colony area close to Lake Lewisville. Mileage may vary, so please don’t take these all as hard rules. Pro’s No state income tax Less traffic Less homeless Affordable housing Cheaper Gas Fishing Related: Many more lakes/ponds to spread fishermen out Con’s Higher Property Tax Toll Ways (not Freeways) Weather (August and January suck) Bugs Fishing Related: No nearby ocean Hard to find clear water Bass often focused on smaller baitfish (e.g. threadfin) making swim-baiting tough Heavy Wind and Rain can kill the bite (or at least your will to fish) Many a-hole lake lice (speedboaters, skiers, wake boarders, etc.) Actual lake pests (snakes, turtles, etc.) Overall I would not go back to Cali other than to vacation. Still learning how to put together consistent year round patterns.
  9. If the lakes in Ft. Worth look like the lakes in Dallas, I understand the confusion. When the lakes are murky, blindly ripping the water makes total sense. I see guys gar fishing do it all the time. Having just moved to Tx from California, his sweeping hookset does not discount what he is really doing. When you can see the fish and your white bait 20 feet down, you don’t need to thrash to accomplish the task. This is not fishing. I still want to know how the author knew it was a Mister Twister grub and not some other brand. There are literally thousands of makers of those things.
  10. I heard there’s been a Mike Long sighting down in Louisiana. He’s looking to join the Edward Boys in the Swamp People Bass Tournament.
  11. The old 3 legged cricket. Favorite bait of poachers world wide. C-ya Mike Wrong. Maybe if snagging becomes legal, we’ll love you again.
  12. I love my Simms Pro Dry. Expensive but you can find some of the older models or colors on sale at times. In all fairness, I am a big guy that tends to overheat. If needed, I layer the Pro Dry jacket with a vest underneath to keep my arm mobility for casting. I’ve worn this jacket in small boat trips in the ocean and it handles heavy sideways spray like a champ. The hood closes up like a ninja and my face stays dry (with glasses on). I also have a Huk jacket, but it does not breath that great. Tossed all my Northface, Columbia, REI stuff into the non-fishing pile. Not sure what Simms does different than the other brands, but it helps me focus on the bite and not on the temperature or humidity.
  13. Got mine in the mail today. Very cool and feels good to help out. Win win. Thanks for putting this together.
  14. Thanks. Hope this helps the bro’s on the Far East coast.
