  1. Have any of you checked the counts?!? The 1/2 day boat in San Pedro caught yft. Skiffs caught all 4 species (yt,yft, bft, dodo) 5 miles out of Dana pt. I doubt the 3/4 boats are fishing the coronados http://976-tuna.com/news_front.php
  2. Thanks. Those are Pearl Swimbaits "Ceezcandy" much better than a sledge hammer. Firmer plastic, lasts longer, catches more fish. Best rubber lure on the market for SW bass
  3. These aren't the same fish as we have down here. These are shallow water black rockfish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_rockfish. They just call em black bass up there. The BSB we have down here are purple with spots when they're that size. http://www.fishingvideos.com/news/index ... g+released.
  4. Anyone try shaving the tail down to make it a SS?
  5. X3 on the slammer. It's what I caught my first SB fish on. In the middle of the day in a cpl with no trout. Wake jr. Or rats. The g2 cracker catches too. Stick with it, you'll get one. Find that sweet spot with the wakes where they make the most noise as SLOW as possible.
  6. I know they stock trout at el estero and there may be panfish but I've looked everywhere online and can't find any report about a bass.
  7. I'm going up to Monterey next week for work, and I'm going to have a few extra days to kill while Im up there. Is it worth my time to fish those parks in town or is there somewhere close I should try? Not tryin to blow up anyone's spot but I would like to make a few productive casts while I'm up there. Any info is appreciated.

  14. Working on sportboats I've had to teach a few thousand people how to cast over the years. This is my number one analogy I use when explaining how to cast without whipping the rod and casting the bait off. Let enough line out until the bait is at the stripper guide (closest to reel) lay the rod back and let the bait fall and try to make the bait swing in a perfect circle releasing the spool when the bait is in the 12 o'clock position. As you get comfortable with this you will be able to swing a little harder, putting more load on the rod, making the bait fly further. Good luck, keep casting.
  15. Maine is wicked awesome! Spent every summer as a kid in Wells Beach. Only fished stripers and blues back then. I wanna get back there so bad with my swimbaits and do some downeast dickering  welcome!
  16. Same as doing the regular ones. I haven't had a problem with mine
  17. Thanks guys. Calico bass fishing is some the most exciting fishing there is. Even if its slow there's so much to take in at the islands it's hard to get bored. It'll always be #1 in my book. For the guys that want to get out but don't have a boat capable of a run offshore there are a few guys in la/oc that run guided trips. Check out Jimmy Decker (fishingwithdecker) or Benny Florentino (costalcharters). Two class act fishy dudes with decades of experience who will show you a great time. If I had a rig capable I would offer a ride to you guys but I don't think my 13 whaler is ready for that for now I'm just a bum hitchin rides whenever I can!
  18. Here's a little edit from a while back. Enjoy
  19. Very cool! Can't wait to see the pics!
