  6. in southern California most lakes limit is either ten or no limit in central ca or the delta its 18 inch min 2 fish limit........ninja netiher show nor tell about their nighttime excursions
  7. I have the jumbo I love it but what someone mentioned about the tip rubbing I had wondered about that seemed that it was made for fishing with braid with small diameter of the last couple guides I got mine for 100$ at bass a thon
  8. Lake Eastman is very low also and that place in the short amount of time I spent there seemed like a lake with record fish in it I found a teener floating out there that was barely alive I hear the water level dropping leads to a lot of big fish dying
  9. A year ago I was in the midst of a slump that lasted from November through Janurary. I had just gotten back into swimbaiting seriously has I had not been doing it as seriously since around 2009. My guide selects that I had since for years were all broken and the calico special that was my first real swimbait rod from back in 03 was broken too all my calcuttas were shot and I was fishing with a mojo and a revo a year ago. I had started fishing with swimbaits with an AC plug and surf rod for stripers in 97 with my Dad at Castaic. Around 2003 I got into fishing green bass with swimbaits really hard and at my peak around 06 07 08 09 my three set ups were my calico special paired with Calcutta 400 okuma guide select orginal xh with a Calcutta 400b and another guide select paired with Calcutta 300 I would sneak from my friend or I would take the 400 off my calico special to put on the okuma and put an international 975 level wind on the calico special. I also would fish a shitty low profile pacifica reel given to me by a friend until it blew out on me. I want to thank my friend Casey who guys by WRHguy for helping reignite my passion for swimbaiting but now IM a striperhead all the way looking for a unicorn. So I know this is long winded but a year ago I was fishing under matched gear for the baits I am throwing now. I still have my trusty Calcutta 400b I was able to trade in my broken okuma guide selects for new ones awesome warranty over there. I also now fish a musky rod from them that is rated for baits up to a pound I also now have a komodo 350, an Irod jumbo swimbait rod, my trusty calico special should be up and running in a month or two and I should be getting some more Calcutta 400s for a great deal soon. I now have a arsenal of baits I would never have had dreamed of a year ago to have. I still have old chewed up ospreys hudds and eagle swimbaits to remember the old times with but a year ago compared to now. I have travelled light years in one year and I think I have made leaps and bounds beyond not just where I was last year but also compared to five or six years ago in terms of knowledge and skill. I still love green bass I had a teener yesterday stalk my deps right after I had twenty plus striper chase it in gotta love those high mountain lakes haha.
  10. When dottie was alive at Lake Dixon she ran around with a group of fish in the high teens into the 20s. Jed Dickerson Mac Weakly Mike Long John Kerr (before john and Mike had fallen out of favor with each other) all knew of this group of fish and knew the best time to fish them was during the spawn because they always spawned in same general area. I fished Dixon a lot from 03 to 07 just a dumb teenager trying to get in on the chase and I had seen a wolf pack of fish there with nothing under a teener. I had heard talk of this wolf pack Dottie ran with and it seemed they grouped together during the pre spawn.....how do I know this by talking to actual world record hunters and trying to collect intel on the lake I could only visit once a week or every couple weeks. I had seen the aforementioned anglers fishing swimbaits at that lake at the buoy line covering it from one end of lake to other from shallow to deepest because those fish ran around that general area in pre spawn fattening up. Just a FYI Dixon at its deepest point is no more than 80 or 90 feet deep........the right genes with the right forage equals monster bass another example is the lagoon of Castaic before they stop stocking there were record fish in there now just fish into mid to high teens deepest part of that lake hovering around 100 foot mark depending on water level
  11. seems like your describing Eastman lol but im probally wrong
  12. Oh we can put an effort into writing very eloquently when motivated. However at that moment I was in a rush typing from my cell phone. Hell if you think that was entertaining you should have seen rob flaata a couple weeks ago chase away some kook casting over the top of him at Castaic. Rob flaata has the striper record at Castaic and is a hell of a stick and cool dude to talk to. When my buddy busted out a SMIRK PLUG he got very stoked and started telling stories about the good old days. If you do not know what a smirk is shame on you if you think you know your swimbait fishing. I swear some people think the only bait in the world that exists are those from last 5 years or the deps lol. I think I will bust out my old ospreys that are bass world west pro rigged and chewed to bits maybe even a bomber ghetto tuned with a hole drilled in it with some putty put in it to cast farther. All the old stuff still gets bit but hell even I need a new slide swimmer cannot wait for bass a thon. Hope my grammer is a little better now that I have a computer in front of me.
  13. joe uribe jr is a swimbait guy no one remembers the hank parker episode at casitas with him and mike long he sticks a ten on old school bottom bouncing Castaic soft bait he used to clean house at dvl with triple trout he might be a tourney guy but he knows how to fish big bait hell he was sticking swimbait fish at el dorado park lake back in the day growing up ...and why no paul bailey hudd guru at clear lake who had been cashing checks on the big bait
  14. and bill still be tossing beat up ac looking plugs the bastard wouldn't give me a tow once back in lagoon when my motor died he was just deadsticking his bait watching me drag my johnboat thru the shallows back to ramp against wind but then butch came thru gave me a tow tied me up to his boat gave me lesson on fishing ice jig with sonar and smoked a doobie with me.... too bad he doesn't answer my messages to get a tuned bait wouldn't mind sharing a doobie with him again....."Not Allowed" buctch always had my back when I was 16 17 fishing the goon hard when it still got stocked one time I was on shore fishing those cables near those willow tress or whatever they are (if your local you know was up) I had a beat up Calcutta with a shot drag and brand new hudd I hooked a double digit took me in those cables I was more worried about losing my brand new hudd back when they cost like forty fifty bucks I was yelling and cursing a storm and butch comes up grabs my line says whooo boy that fish wrapped you good I lost the fish but got my hudd back and I got a new Calcutta later that week so a fish wouldn't work me again but ya just wanted to share my two cents to lazy for proper grammer right now don't get butt hurt
  15. WORM KING DINOSAUR first one made and sold to public my friend has one came from fishing saltwater bass lead head ten inch soft body plastic eyeballs to glue on and a treble hook and wire to thread thru for trap hook. not saying it first ever cuz guys were throwing iron jigs and home made wood baits in early 80s for striper in Castaic and pyramid. yall think it was for largemouth first it was for stripers they didn't even realize at first the largemouth wanted the big bait they thought it was a fluke when they ate it. ish I have talked to jerry bill butch crazy old timers in Castaic selling baits on side of road that you would trip out on but that was the first commercially available bait ask butch he is the doctor lol awesome to live around the birthplace of swimbaiting big baiting ..... think Im tripping on saying they were throwing saltwater jigs for them bill still does go down to west ramp in Castaic walk to the rock wall a couple points down during a nasty storm you will find bill their tossing a beat up iron jig he will try to hide it but there is no point its on the internet you can look it up on calfishing on posts that are over ten years old lol
  16. no ish lol I waded out for it at 1am at least I caught like fifteen fish on it sucks tho
  17. that looks like a bad ass abrogaust ac plug painted greenback sweeter its homemade good job
  18. Hey looking to buy a deps butch brown natural or flash I live in south bay of LA and would like to pick it up instead of having to wait for it in mail. If anyone has one please text me 310 6348428 thanks in advance my name is Larry
  19. were you at silverwood recently
  20. haha I bought it on ebay thinking it was all action but some of the stuff you say Butch is very informative funny you brought up carp minnows. There is some old timer up in Castaic who sells plastic worms and junk from side of road by gallions he said that Bob Crupi kept carp minnows in a tank at his house. Than I was talking to a carp fisherman and he brought up interesting points about the life of a baby carp seems like that is the go to forage in most lakes a lot of people do not realize.
  21. nail on the head perfectly It is still in my favorites bar too
  22. Just wanted to pay respect to rob belloni and calfishing for all the great info and stories when I started out doing this 10 years ago. His articles on swimbait fishing I think are some of the best info you could find on the net if you are new to this or just looking for a good read. Its funny how there used to be no swimbait specific rods, till okuma came out it with theirs, everyone used saltwater calico rods I still chuck with my Californian calico special. I still want a rainshadow blank to get wrapped after all these years just because Rob said they were dope. For some of those out here in cali that had windows 2000 and a thirst for chasing donkeys this was the OG site that had the best info on how to start out fishing trophy bass and how you go about looking for them. I know there are lot of guys on here who started out over there on Calfishing or contributed to the site greatly before it slowly drifted away. Still check in from time to time and look up old posts lot of history over there. Seemed like that trophy fourm had some of the heavy hitters interacting and sharing info over the years anyone remember FishChris and his webstite Trophybassonly lol Those goals for the new year posts are classic I am still looking for that teener haha and the member galleries damn you wont find a better collection of pig pics anywhere......God to go back to 2004 with some glide baits that would have been epic anyone else that was part of calfishing and would like to say something go for it. I really wish I contributed more but I guess teenagers back than kept there mouth shut more and just asked questions lol ......Pro rigged bass world west ospreys man I used to do work at el dorado with those anyone else used to go there? Ok here is one for So Cal/OC guys how about when performance tackle was at its old location and Joe Uribe jr did a swimbait seminar now im stretching it there were barely like 20 of us for that and one dude kept asking if these techniques could work in salt.... if a seminar like that happened today wont be enough seats in the house...... Hank parker at casitas with mike long and joe uribe jr must find that episode joe sticks a donkey on soft Castaic bouncing on bottom .....Cant wait to see what the next 10 years of chasing giants has in order for the web hopefully the Underground will still be around......
  23. lol back in the mid 2000s at el do in long beach used to rent paddle boats go around the tullies collecting lost baits found a triple trout and hudd doing that...... buddy got a line thru rago off Castaic dam this year.... I got an osprey back once from someone that found my bait when lake level dropped back in the day......also found a Castaic platinum at Dixon lake
