Anyone have any experience with magnets? Been making a few baits lately and I'm on the fence about putting magnets in them to hold the hooks against the body of the bait. I like the idea and look of the hooks tucked up out of the way, but does this negatively effect the hook up ratio? Help a brother out SBU!!!

Had a few hours to kill today so I threw together this little rat bait. Shooting for a crankdown with a more subtle action. Gave it a steeper bill angle and added quite a bit of weight hopefully that gets the job done.

7 inch 3:16 rising son top hook. Gets murdered and has an insane hookup ratio. Don't want to jinx myself, but I land almost every single fish I hook on them.

I've broken off enough plugs on monster stripers to have a healthy fear of throwing anything remotely expensive at them lol

Been slow at work the last few days so I decided to make some blatant slammer/pats ripoffs. Forgot how much I enjoyed making baits! This was my first attempt at a 4 piece. Free handed this out of an old chair leg I found in the back of the shop

That thing looks real nice. Been thinking about makeup my some resin baits lately myself

Get whatever you think looks the coolest because I don't think the bass give a ish hahaha Also.....GET THE 9 INCH TWO PIECE

i notice the same thing throwing a whopper plopper. hundreds of fish on that thing every single one on the front hook

I know a lot of salt water guys will switch out trebles to single hooks on plugs and such but I rarely see this happening in the swimbait world. Has anyone tried this before? I'd like to move away from trebles if possible for the fishes sake, but at the same time I don't want to miss bites

that thing looks amazing in the water

i just covered the bottom of a 9in with a bunch of lead tape didn't do a thing haha. Cool idea though. i will get back to this once winter boredom really sets in.

anyone know where I can find new foil or wraps for the 250?
-
Best softbaits I've ever seen. I hope I can get one or two of these!

Interesting comment about the wood densities. I recently got 2 more 9in single joints and one of them is noticeably heavier than the rest of my slammers. This one dives even on a super slow retrieve but still doesn't crank down more than about 6-8 inches. If anyone has an extra cranking 3 piece they are willing to part with feel free to slide into my DMs

the slammer can't be explained it can only be experienced

Thanks guys! This site always exceeds my expectations with priceless swimbait knowledge. I currently have a 9 inch waking version that will crank down to about a foot before it rolls (maybe a bit less) do you guys think that will be ok or should I invest in an actual cranking model? I'm seeing a lot of love for the 3 piece for cranking
-
Alright guys, as we all know straight waking the slammer works incredibly well as does the deadstick/twitch combo. I'd say 75% of my fish come from straight wake while the other 25% coming from the pause (especially as the temps cool here in CT) ive only caught one fish cranking it down so far. My question to the all powerful slammer gods that lurk in SU is this...is there a time/conditions where cranking down the slammer becomes more effective than the straight wake or pause technique? Help a brother out!

I got a 9 inch slammer about 2months ago and I got a full blown case of slammeritis. I just can't seem to throw anything else! As it's started to get colder this last week or two I've noticed the straight wake technique hasn't been as effective so I switched it up to the deadstick and twitch and they are wrecking it! Thanks SU and all the slammer wizards on here for sharing so much priceless info! I have a feeling this is the year I'm throwing topwater in the snow

My favorite fish

if I was forced to throw just one bait for the rest of my life it would be the top hook RS. Pike can't get enough of them and I've had days where I've caught 20+ smallies on the same bait and it still ran fine. After awhile (50+) fish some of them start to run a bit lopsided so I toss a weight on the bottom before I feed the line back up through the top. This gets the bait lower and I can burn it at nearly full speed and it stays true.

Here's one of the first rats I made 2 years ago. Out of that batch this one swam the best and no bullshit I caught a little shrimp dick first cast swim testing it in a tiny creek next to my house!
