  1. I bought a dobyns 796 from Jeremy. No problems at all and a great guy to work with. I'd gladly and confidently do business with him again.
  2. I have a revo winch and a couple lews superduty's. I like both of them equally well. In my opinion the lews is a little smoother and cast better for how I like a reel to be set.
  3. Hey guys and gals, the title says it all. I am looking to buy a few Bull Shads if anyone wants to get rid of them. I'm looking to add them to my collection and fish them. I've never fished one and I want to know what all the hype is about. I am a tournament fisherman so I'm really looking for the 6 inch versions. ( if anyone has advice on them it is greatly appreciated as well ) Any shad color is fine, and I am looking for the slow sink and the fast sink as well. If any of ya'll have some and are wanting to part ways with them please pm me. Located in Middle TN Thank You P.S. My luck with hard baits sucks, but I have been told this bait flat out works. Curiosity is getting the best of me.
  4. Pm me what you'd take for it. Located in Tennessee
  5. Costa Delmar with gray lenses when it's bright and maui jim with an orange tint lens when it's early in the morning or not very bright.
  6. It's the same way on Kentucky lake man. We've had B.A.S.S. and FLW there the last few years and it has put so much pressure on the lake. It's stupid at times how much fishing pressure it gets. I'm surprised the lake holds up as well as it does, but this year was most definitely a struggle for most. Some of the best fishermen on the lake struggled all year. No consistency at all and the numbers of fish were way down. It still took 25 plus to win most big one day tournaments but you didn't see the number of sacks over 20 pounds this year that you did in years past. I honestly wish the pro's wouldn't come back. They make for increased traffic and now people use the " bent rod " fish finder and will pull in right on top of you if they see you catch a fish and they won't think twice about it, pro's included.
  7. On a ledge the hudd is ok. It's sometimes hard to keep it down where it needs to be, but if you put it in front of a big girl she'll eat it. Lol. This year was just an off year for the lake. fishing was very very inconsistent. A lot of good fisherman struggled all year. Hopefully this spring it will be back to " normal " and spoil us again. Lol
  8. I have a place on ky lake and fish it every weekend except during duck season. Lol. I throw big baits there and catch fish on them. 68 hudds slow rolled on ledges and hard baits when fish are on shallow cover. There are plenty of big fish in the river system that will eat a big bait.
  9. I throw most of my big swimbaits on a lews super duty. They hold more than enough line in my opinion and like previously stated the gears in them are a little bit beefier. They are very smooth and you can throw a hudd a mile on one. My other big bait reel is a revo winch, which I like but it doesn't cast as well as the lews. I think if you get the super duty you'll be pleased with it. Just my opinion
  10. I use the jig hook on all of mine and haven't had a problem losing fish....yet anyway. Lol. When they eat it, they choke it down far enough that they aren't coming off. Plus I think the treble hook does more damage on a deep hooked fish as well. Just my opinion anyway.
  11. I tried bending the weight on the bottom with pliers through the small opening in the belly. I did read the post on turning the belly weight but I couldn't seem to do that and the only thing that did was turn the hook into the body and put it out of the hook slot. It's on a weedless 12 by the way. I did try bending the line tie like a crankbait and it didn't work either. I'm throwing it on 17# seaguar fluorocarbon. The one I'm talking about is by far the worst of all the weedless ones I have.
  12. Depending on the year and length of the boat, most of the new boats will take an 8 foot rod just fine. The rod locker on my Triton will handle all of my swimbait and crankbait rods on the actual rod locker side. It may also have a place to store rods in the center compartment ( Assuming it's a single compartment ) as well.
  13. Guys and Gals, I searched for this and couldn't find any topics on this so here goes. I have a couple weedless hudds that are not running straight. They are tilting to one side and almost running completely sideways. The tails do not look to be bent in any way that I can tell. I messed with one Saturday for about 20 minutes trying to straighten it out in the boat and I got nowhere with it. I tried several different things with pliers and all it got me was a hook that was not centered in the slot. Do any of ya'll know a trick to correct this. I have not tried to boil the tail or anything like that as I'm hesitant to do so since I've never done that before. Thank You
  14. I throw my 68's on 20 fluorocarbon, bbz's on 17 fluorocarbon, and jig head ones on 15 to 17 depending on cover.
  15. Just curious but why do you feel it's underpowered? I'm just trying to get all the knowledge on this I can. Thanks for the reply
  16. Before the end of the summer it will push 90. That's where the famous ledge bit on out lake comes from. Lol
  17. Guys and gals, Has anyone used the Powell Inferno 765 Utility rods for throwing 68 Hudds? It's rated to 3 oz. and it seems to handle the 68 pretty well when casting. I haven't caught a fish on it yet but I wanted to know if any of you had any experience or words of wisdom on this for me. I searched on here for this but couldn't find anything so I apologize if it has already been covered.
  18. On my home lake ( KY. Lake ) we have a lot of grass on it and I still am fishing the 68. I try and keep it just above the grass, and I'm slow rolling it on ledges where there isn't any grass. I'm still catching a few fish on it but in my experience once the water gets really hot, the swimbait bite for me slows way down. As of yesterday the water temp was about 85 on the main lake.
  19. Austen, My dad did that. He cut it off so he didn't have to worry about it sticking me when he pulled the other 2 out. We tried to push it through and cut the barbs off but there wasn't enough slack in my skin up there to turn it back out. That was in mid march and I've still got a scar from it.
  20. I did this one all by myself. A good jerk with the pliers and it was out and I was back to fishing. Lol. Hurt like he!! Coming out.
  21. I fish a 68 Hudd a lot in tournaments. On KY lake they will eat it, but the conditions have to be right, i.e. clearish water, not a lot of wind or current, and fish actively feeding. Most of my buddies can't believe that I catch fish on that bait, but I do, and big fish. If they won't bite the Hudd I will downsize to a yum money minnow or a shadalicious on a 3/4 or 1oz jig head and they will bite that just about anytime. In those cases I think the roll of the bait and the action are what triggers the strike where as I fish the Hudd ( in my opinion ) to look like a big bait fish just loafing around and not paying attention. those are the two main baits that I fish offshore on ledges. If the fish are on shallow cover I'll opt for a hard bait of some kind.
  22. I fish all of my heavier swimbaits on a Lew's superduty or a revo winch. The Lew's has bigger heavier gears made for throwing heavy or hard pulling baits and I feel that the winch is designed for that too. Both hold a lot of line but aren't overly heavy or big and bulky. To me they are right for how I choose to fish my baits. I can make long casts with both of tem and still have a lot of line left on the spool and both have a very hefty amount of drag.
  23. Also make sure that the units you have linked together are reading off the same transducer if you're wanting to see down and structure scan. Odds are your trolling motor doesn't have the side scan down/scan transducer and it is trying to read it from that transducer. It will be under the source setting on the unit. For my 12 to read things how I want it to, I have the separate functions reading off different transducers. Like for the actual depth, it reads off of the one in the dash instead of the 12 on the ram mount, but for side and down imaging I have both set to read from the 12. More than likely it is something small in your settings that aren't quiet right. I hope that helped.
